Sensor replaced, which firmware?

Leica will install the correct firmware when replacing the sensor.

Not willing to start an argument jaapv , but what is the point of your answer?

I just would like to check which is the firmware for new sensors as I have just received mine and I have a bit of a suspicion that nothing was done.

But here we go, the next post seems to confirm my worries.

Thank you to 80_20

I will ask Leica an explanation in regards.

I think this post seems to be calling for an explanation.

You were asking whether the camera with a new sensor was returned with software version 1.008. One user reports having received his camera with software version 1.016 which is clearly another number than 1.008. Yet you seem not to accept Jaap's answer which says that Leica returns cameras with replaced sensors with software versions to match.

What, exactly, is your worry?

Without wasting time with a flash and a diffuser and checking for spot positions and compare before/after the trip, I simply wanter a quick way to know whether the sensor was replaced or not.

Unfortunately unlike the M9, for the MM the FW can be the same with the new sensor (so it seems).

Will check with camera maker as the pictures have spots (not as ugly as they were before the trip at a first glimpse... but to be honest I do not dare to check, it is Saturday and I was/am in a good mood so prefer to figure this out with the supplier next week).

PS

Did you have your one fixed too?

It seems like all of them have the issue, the fact is that there are many users which prefer wide apertures and bokeh so they will never see the problem...

I am one of the f8 onwards so I am doomed to see the issue as soon as it happens...

Nah. The first wave of replacements came back with 1.010, which was different from the last FW for the MM (maybe 1.008, it hadn't changed much in the past couple of years and is still up on the website for those who have MMs that didn't suffer corrosion), mine came back in July with FW 1.010, and others who received their replacements later than that had 1.012. 1.016 was the first MM FW update that has been posted on Leica's Websitein some time; the other versions were installed at Leica with the new sensor.

Ok, so only for the records and future questions, in case somebody had my same doubts.

the new sensor is the only one that is currently fitted, when there is an issue

in my case the camera had the sensor replaced / the dots have gone, simple dust and not corrosion as before

the FW is usually updated as part of the works

but (and this is interesting)

in my case they forgot FW and kept 1.008.

Thus the firmware is not sufficient to check whether the sensor was replaced as the new sensor works also with the FW 1.008 and the 1.016 is the same for all.

Last piece of advice (as given to me) is to remember to ask for the invoice where all works are described.

All resolved for me and thanks to Leica for help.

G.

PS and thanks to you for listening.

My Monochrom just returned yesterday with the 1.016.

Seems to start up a little quicker and the images come up on the display a tad faster after the shutter is actuated.

M Monochrom Firmware Version 1.016 is current, and only adds support for the Summaron-M 28 mm f/5.6.

I think, but am not certain, that my last FW before the swap was a 1.002. I do detect a faster start-up and operational speed.
