Thank you very much @adan,

Not sure if you genuinely have an interest in this or just rose to the challenge of the research?! (perhaps both?!!)

Here's some of the details you mentioned... I did the best I could here, but we're talking ISO2000 (+post) and 400% view and screen shots... so excuse the fuzziness..

cuffs

Hat!

Medal

and here's two more red uniforms they had (they also had a Wren uniform, but it was in a very dark corner and was grey so I passed it by with the camera)

That was pretty much it.

I was simply curious if my "intuition" that it was a UK/GB uniform was correct, or whether other countries (including Portugal) might also use "redcoats" of some kind.

It's interesting to see that the affinity between Portugal and the UK/GB (especially in military matters, and dating back to 1147-ish) is still so - celebrated.

For a while (about a hundred years ago) GBP was even legal tender here (shame it's not now, that would be very convenient for me!!)

IIRC (...) The Anglo-Portugal alliance is perhaps (certainly one of) the oldest in the world

There's a 'trendiness' to English things here, the shops have handbags with the union jack on them, teenagers swear in English (!!) and all the movies and (non-kids) TV shows are not dubbed from English (so no Homer Simpson speaking Spanish like you get across the boarder)

Sometimes someone will speak to me in perfect British English (including the accent) and I ask them how long they lived in the UK and they say 'nope never even visited, just learnt it from Harry Potter'

As I'm linguistically inept (and that's being kind) it's great to live somewhere with such widely spoken English!

😄

For the Kokarde at the hat, this is the uniform of a Royal Engineer. "Honi soit qui mal y pense", the sign around the Kokarde, what means something like "be ashamed of those who think bad of it".

For me, the uniform seems to be a mixture of real elements and phantasy.

I suspect that f/10 is the "best" aperture on old Leica lenses.  Am I right?

The maximum aperture of your Summicron lens is f2. Even the old(er) lenses reach their optimum performance when stopping down two or three f-stops. So for maximum optical performance, stopping down your Summicron to f5.6 should be more than enough, maybe f8 if desired, but I would not stop down any further except if needed for depth of field.
