Who are you to dictate what is 'awful'? Can we see your contribution? Most photos I have seen from a mobile phone are selfies. I have yet to see a decent photograph taken on a phone.

Unless you can provide evidence your comment will be ridiculed.

Hello Peter, well as much as I personally dislike using a 'phone as a camera rather than the real thing I have to say that maybe you haven't looked into some images that have been sourced on a mobile 'phone....case in point, Apple's iPhone images competition, there's some truly good work entered....you can find it here:

https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/02/apple-highlights-best-photos-shot-on-iphone-around-the-world/

And as always there's the old true adage whether we like it or not, " it's not the camera, it's the eye behind the camera", and that's true whatever that camera might be.

Good to hear from you Peter. There is, I think, a huge difference between using a phone camera for selfies (probably 90%+ of phone camera use) and using a phone camera for taking a landscape with great composition. The inability to vary depth of field using a phone camera lacks the power of a true camera. However, when nothing else is at hand the phone's camera is then the best available option. Terry O'Neill preferred his 'trusty Leica'. I doubt he ever used a mobile phone to take a photo.

I was in Winchester once having tyres replaced. I walked around the water meadows and did take a couple of good landscape shots on a Smartphone. When I looked at the result my thumb obscured part of the scene! If I had carried my 'trusty Leica' that wouldn't have happened ... unless I left the lens cap on. Best wishes.

There are two distinct arguments here:

The eye and how it composes images, is the dominant argument.

The secondary argument is the role of better equipment.

Given the same eye to the composition, the image taken with a Leica should be of a superior quality to that of a phone.
