M10 - the Image Thread

Ok I have to be honest here since this is the epitome of Leica M Quality, M10 + Apo 50.

I was super close to pull the trigger for a M10 + 50Sumi, but this thread really discouraged me.

Posts like this remind me that even the best glass and camera don't make one a great photographer, to the opposite even.

I feel one has the responsibility to deliver great shots with a camera kit that costs 14k.

I don't even want to bother to write up a critique here because clearly the poster doesn't care about pleasant  aesthetics in their photograph and just enjoys using top of the line gear.

Get a life !

I just love the "pleasant aesthetics" comment, and just cannot resist posting again these two links to Michael Johnston's Great Photographers on the Internet: Part I and Part II — the most appropriate thing I know.

Yea sure because every random from the hip shot must be a masterpiece that peasants like me just "don't get"

Whats next you will compare everyone here to HCB or even quote him?

TD11, did you happen to look at JCM's history of posts? I agree that those M10 are unappealing and I wouldn't personally post those. But he has some nice photos that he's shared in the past.

In any case, learning and inspiration never stops. I've got some good photos and people generally compliment my eye. But I'm still going to check out those photography learning links that were posted. :)

This is what Moriyama Daido calls a “no finder shot”: I held the camera in front of my chest after I set the focus and shutter speed. Because the background at the right is very bright, 3-4 stops brighter than the university student, I underexposed her by about ½ stop — that was sufficient not to blow out any highlights. This shows how well modern camera sensors can handle highlights. On the other hand, the background on the left is a tinted mirror with a somewhat wavy surface, as you can seen the reflection of the building behind the main subject. The scene is just before the Siam station of the Bangkok Skytrain, where the elevated pedestrian walkway that runs along several high end shopping malls joins the station platform.
