I know the S lenses are made for a bigger sensor, and may be oversized for the body, but the S adapter for SL works well, and the sensor of the SL has the same size as on the M. I would certainly find it interesting to try my S lenses on the M. But they would have to be used in manual mode, and they focus by wire, so some form of electrical coupling would be necessary. No AF and the adapter would need its own aperture ring so it would not be very user friendly since S lenses aren't made for manual focus like M lenses. LorenzoLandini Posted January 20, 2017 Share #7 Posted January 20, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I respectfully disagree with the concept and I truly don't understand why anyone would like to use a S lens on an M body, except for sake of fun and experimenting (which is great). As you well know having used an S system, S lenses are great but the M lenses are not shabby either and they are compact and wonderful. The S are at the very opposite extreme of the M lenses, chubby, heavy, AF by wire, etc. etc. It's a clash of titans. The M is a very particular camera with a lot of shortcomings and at the same time extremely lovely to use.. as is. There is plenty of cameras out there, many of them top notch. darylgo Posted February 19, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 19, 2017 A tube such as pvc is all that's necessary to put the lens at the proper distance from the body. Focus, shoot. It's an exercise in frustration, no aperture control, it's a juggling act with the camera on the tripod and the lens handheld but it can be done. The Mamiya 645 lenses are very inexpensive, $100 to $200, and sharp. With a few color tweaks in lightroom the look can be made to be Zeiss like. I am interested in an S to M adapter for another reason: use for video. I would love the ability to adapt the S lenses to the Sony cameras, which would be easy to do if they are M mount. The aperture is not that hard to deal with, as I mostly keep it fixed for video anyway. Focus is manual, as was stated. It is fairly easy to get the right aperture: just select it on an S body (which I assume you have if you are considering this), press the stop down button, and then remove the lens while still holding it down. And yes, I agree this is all a bit convoluted, but being able to use the 30-90, 120mm 2.5 and other lenses on full frame 4k...it would be excellent. They are so sharp, so well corrected and have such lovely bokeh. For the kind of video work I make (which is mostly used in art installations), this would be a really nice option. If I was doing cine full time, then the Leica cine lenses might make sense, but as it is now, I mostly am working with shots that do not require movement or focus pulls, so the S lenses as they are would be ideal, especially since I already have them...
