Which strap for the M10? {merged}

As the M10 doesn't have the plastic inserts to protect the sides against rubbing I would have thought the softer the better. This is is the one aspect of the M10 that was a disapointment to me.

Question: does anybody make a strap that is easily removable? I have a strap that Luigi made that has tiny itty-bitty carabiner-type connectors, which is great, but it is a bit flimsy and I'm wondering if there is something more robust on the market. I can't believe I'm the only one who sometimes wants the strap on, sometimes wants it off, and doesn't want to spend fifteen minutes ripping my thumbnails off trying to deal with those typical keyring connectors.

I'm considering the Peak design solution - minimum abrasion risk and nice and flexible:

https://www.peakdesign.com/leash

https://www.peakdesign.com/product/straps/slide/

It doesn't even need a split ring as it connects directly to the lug...

Anyone with any experience?

Otherwise I may simply revert to the trusted standard Leica strap with a small circular leather protector.

I strongly whish such thing too! I suggested it to Leica, but they did not hear on me.

Leica makes one - the best there is actually. Replacing a strap needs no tools and broken finger nails and is done within about 10-20 seconds.

It is a pit they ship the camera with a keyring leather strap it seems :-(

I hope this does not mean the end of the superior quick release Nylon straps, Leica offered for years.

It does work as advertised and certainly allows you to swap out a neck strap for a wrist strap easily.  You have to be vigilant and always ensure that the little disc seats securely into the holder at the ends of the strap.  The disc and "string" bits seem strong and secure but a little tough to work its way through the camera lug to attach - you would certainly want to keep these in place all the time and they don't really get in the way if you want to go strapless.

There were/are two things I don't like - or perhaps better to say aren't ideal.  The first is the matter of esthetics, I'm not wowed by the look but some may enjoy its utilitarian simplicity, YMMV.  Second, the piece you snap the discs into is large and is made of both metal and plastic components.  While the string/disc piece attached to lugs is unlikely to harm the camera finish in any way, the  other piece on the strap end can make contact when, for example, you are putting camera down or away in a bag.  The nice thing about the system is that you can put the disc and string thingies on everything - other cameras, pairs of binoculars, etc.. and share a single strap.  Bottom line though, you still have to have faith that this system is secure enough to hang $10k or so worth of M camera and glass off your shoulder/neck/wrist.

Don't know about "proper" strap for an M10 but I do like Angelo Pelle's straps and have one on my M246.  I also like some of the offerings from Tap & Dye and the "Deadcameras" straps look intriguing but no direct experience. Of course, none of these are easy on or off deals.

I actually like the nylon Leica strap but I did have a scare last year when it came unattached from the lug on its own. Luckily I caught it but now I have trust issues!

I never had the urge to replace my standard strap. In fact I have a spare one in plastic lying there until the one I have breaks, but it did not deter in 20 years. I also hope they keep making these superior, but non fashion like, straps.

After the first few weeks with my first Leica I started to buy these original Leica Nylon straps with the current quick release system left and right (Leica made another one earlier that is not as secure).

I must have now a dozen of those straps around and use them on all my light cameras.

I have modified a few of them into wrist straps too which I use with compact cameras, light meters and as handles for small pouches.

All of these straps I have modified by removing the rubber shoulder pad - the only detail about this Leica strap I always disliked.

You can even adjust this strap to VERY short after having the shoulder pad removed by simply pulling the slightly widened center piece through one side of the adjustable buckle - it is the perfect length for shooting a 35/2 lens with the camera around your neck while also handling a second camera.

The secret to new Leica Nylon straps is to deal with their initial stiffness with a few warm water washes with hair shampoo. After that they become really supple and flexible.

One word to safety: the current quick release straps secret to safety is that the plastic lock sleeve should feel VERY tight when slipping it over the stainless steel D ring and must be pulled until no further possible.

If it is not fully pulled into its position or worn by years of repeated fastening it may fail and slip over the D ring. If it doesn't feel very tight when locking, replace the strap!

Check for this secure fit! I never had any of these fail.

Btw I have a hatred towards keyring straps and their clumsy doodads to deal with the metal eating keyring.

They always looked very rough and disingenuous to me from an engineering stand point.

there is a small plastic divider that rides between the two bits of strap on those connectors - so two or three stitches (big ones, so they are easy to pick out later) back and forth will lock them into position - it is what i have done with mine (although mine just uses the stock connectors on a short bit of webbing, the rest of it is my take on the A+A Slider strap)

I tape it. Works for me through the years..

I have found tape leaves sticky residue (unless you use self amalgamating "rescue tape")

so what? I just tape over it again...Sticky residue will be under the tape. It does not bother. The thing is, that if the tape is gone, I can tape it again. every few years new tape and and a strap for ever. I use electrical isolation tape

Carlos Danger,

Jono had let me know recently that the Harry Benz (which I own as well) will rub and scuff up the M10 because the leather area by the rings is too thick.

I love these straps as well but am looking for another option.

I really love these straps, they're adjustable, comfortable on the skin (very soft and don't get cold in the winter or sweaty in the summer), good looking and secure, and they do have leather protecting the metal parts from touching the camera:

They're around 50 euros each but I think it's a good investment, never felt the need to change my strap again after buying these. I am using a black one on my silver M9 and a green one on my black M6.
