Used film camera from Japan, duty free.

New lens from Israel, duty free.

New lens from Hong Kong, had to pay a duty. Collected by shipper (DHL) prior to delivery.

Country of origin and what it is you are purchasing determines duty (if required).

My observation over many Leica launches is that B&H rarely, if ever, gets any cameras in the first shipment or two.  (Perhaps they receive a unit or two, but I don't ever recall it being reported here).

As (surely) the largest camera store in the world, they present a unique challenge to a small manufacturer like Leica.  Their unit sales and waiting lists are long enough to probably absorb everything Leica could make in the initial batches.  Leica prefers to spread the joy, for obvious reasons.

My sense is that Leica gives B&H less than what would be their proportional allocation during the first couple of months, and then gives them more than their proportional allocation afterwards.

Maybe. Definitely plausible. I would guess the B&Hs and Adoramas get similar allocation as a normal Leica store until demands subside. Or they could get more allocation but still a smaller percentage of orders compared to Leica dealers.

I just want my M10.  If I had known about the existence of Leica dealers and their role within the community, I would have put my name on their list. At this point, I don't want to have my name on more than one list. I have been dealing with Leica Miami for several accessories and they have been fantastic to deal with.

Two comments complimenting B&H while I await the rain storm:

1)  When the M-D 262 was released, B&H was the first to have them, beating even the Gallerie stores.  They delivered mine without issue, a straight order off the website.

2)  Lok Cheung, one of two talented hosts who was laid off by "the" largest digital camera channel on YouTube, was trying to stay active in that community but only owned an iPhone.  Mr. Posner of B&H provided him, free of charge and without condition, a nice vlogging camera and lens at no charge as they appreciated his past contributions to the industry and to encourage him to continue the good work.

I just had a chance to look at the very helpful link you post d more carefully and it does look like you are absolutely correct, still cameras have no us duty under 9006. I would point out for completeness that lenses are subject to duty at 2.3% under 9002. Thanks again for sharing the link!

I picked up a silver chrome M10 at my Copenhagen dealer the other day - and am still working to learn the menu. Here are pictures of the new camera and one of it's ancestors which was sold to finance it.

Update from Leica Las Vegas when I first got on the list I was number 9 now I'm number 6 and they hope to have a bigger shipment of 5-6 cameras next week. As of now they have been basically getting one camera body each every week, form what I've been told. Hope to have my M10 by the first or second week of March.
