erlingmm Posted January 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) My trouble with the M (compared to the SL and S) is the lack of a proper diopter solution. The old screw-in diopter type for M does not make it for me (need variable for taking on/off glasses), and the new M10 finder is bigger than the previous (good!). What will the diopter solutions for the M10 be? Any hope of a proper, variable one? Edited January 19, 2017 by erlingmm
Advertisement Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Hi erlingmm, Take a look here Diopters for the M10?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chris_tribble Posted January 19, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2017 There is already a solution: https://uk.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/Leica-M10/Accessories-Equipment It's a thread adapter that allows the use of existing diopters. Neat solution! Chapeau to Leica for planning ahead. What the availability will be I'm less sure.
erlingmm Posted January 19, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted January 19, 2017 This is just a stepping ring for the old diopters. It is not variable, and will narrow the new finder back to the old M perspective. Not what I need.
John Black Posted January 19, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 19, 2017 There is a new series of Leica diopter lenses specifically for the M10, B&H Photo has a links for all the different strengths - Leica Correction Lenses II.

The combination will alter the field of view. Edited January 19, 2017 by lucerne
mmx_2 Posted January 19, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 19, 2017 This device won't fit the new M10. not even together with this: "There is already a solution: https://uk.leica-cam...ories-Equipment It's a thread adapter that allows the use of existing diopters. chris_tribble Posted January 19, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 19, 2017 Thanks for the heads up. Better, but still not ideal. What's wrong with these? Should give all the eye-relief needed - even with the M240 I can see the framelines for the 28 with the diopter in place.

Ideally I would like variable like on S/SL, I use glasses on/off, sometimes contacts, need flexibility and quick changes.
chris_tribble Posted January 19, 2017 Share #11 Posted January 19, 2017 OK - I fear never on the M. I'm considering going for monocular contact lenses to get round the whole glasses on / glasses off hassle. Getting older has it's drawbacks as well as its consolations. I realised I'd hit middle age when my arms stopped being long enough
John Black Posted January 19, 2017 Share #12 Posted January 19, 2017 I'm skeptical of the step-ring for legacy diopters, etc. to work. The diameter on the M-10 eye piece looks larger (the actual glass area) than past M's, so I suspect using legacy diopters will constrict the eye relief or some result in the view being "less". Also, I can't tell if the Mark II series replace the standard -.5 eyepiece or if the diopter adjustment lens stacks onto the existing eyepiece like they do the M-240 and earlier. I'd be okay with it just replacing because I think that will lead to better contrast. I need a -2 diopter lens on my current M's to see clearly through the OVF, so this little "detail" is of great interest I'm worried that my dealer will call in the next month or so and say may camera is ready to be shipped, but no diopter lenses will be available... chris_tribble Posted February 1, 2017 Share #13 Posted February 1, 2017 For information, Leica Mayfair has the diopter thread adaptor in stock at the moment. I've just bought two They were very helpful and let me try a the new diopter as well. I'm pleased to report that I found zero difference between focusing with the old (smaller) diopter + thread adaptor and the new diopter. The advantages of sticking with your existing diopter (if you use one) are: 1. Cost - the thread adaptor is £42 (with it's posh leather case!) and the diopter is £120! 2. Functionality - the old diopter + thread adaptor are optically fully effective and they PROTRUDE LESS - I find the profile of the new diopter to be overbulky. You can get a sense of how the old diopter fits from the photo below. Hope this helps people to make choices! Welcome, dear visitor! Cliff S Posted February 1, 2017 Share #14 Posted February 1, 2017 Do the new dioptres for the M10 have rubber or are they still plastic where it meets your glasses?
digitalfx Posted February 1, 2017 Share #15 Posted February 1, 2017 does anyone sell a rubber ring only (no diopter) to protect your glasses?
chris_tribble Posted February 1, 2017 Share #16 Posted February 1, 2017 (edited) Do the new dioptres for the M10 have rubber or are they still plastic where it meets your glasses? The one I tried didn't feel soft. I think it was a hard plastic, the same exterior diameter as the eye piece on the M10 and about the same thickness as the eyepiece too, thereby doubling it. Question. If you use a diopter why use glasses? Edited February 1, 2017 by chris_tribble
Cliff S Posted February 1, 2017 Share #17 Posted February 1, 2017 I need a +0.5 to counter act the built in -0.5 since Ruth my glasses I see perfectly sharp. The built in diopter counteracts my vision with glasses
chris_tribble Posted February 2, 2017 Share #18 Posted February 2, 2017 Ah. Like many I regret the impossibility of having a built in diopter on the Ms. It would be a convenience. However I'd never want to swap it for the enormous carbuncle which has been stuck on the top of the SL...
keithlaban.co.uk Posted February 2, 2017 Share #19 Posted February 2, 2017 Could some kind soul please confirm dioptre correction limits on the Visoflex 020? I'm seeing conflicting info, some saying -1 to +1 and others -3 to +3. TIA.
chris_tribble Posted February 2, 2017 Share #20 Posted February 2, 2017 +3 to -3. It works fine for my +3 needs. Also see: http://uk.pcmag.com/leica-visoflex-typ-020/33968/review/leica-visoflex-typ-020
