Exchange program for M10

Hi there!

Does anyone know if there will be an exchange program for the M10? I have an M262 and would love to upgrade :)

Fred

Many Leica dealers take used bodies in part exchange for whatever you wish to purchase. I'm hoping that the secondhand market will now offer plenty of choice of all leica models as people trade up. I don't know of any specific promotions by leica. They don't really need to stimulate demand for the M10 at this time. Demand -as always - will outstrip supply for some time.

Yes, many Leica dealers will buy your recent Leica cameras in excellent condition to be put towards a purchase of another camera or lens.  I'm sure their phones will be very busy in the coming year with such requests.

I would say the trade in works like this: you sell your current M262 here in the classifieds section of this forum and order a new M10 in one of your local dealers :)

seriously it's probably your best option (or you can consider eBay or any other leica forum in your area that has a classifieds section)

You would more than likely get a better deal selling through this site, Ebay or some other on line add service as some suggested above. The dealers more than likely will not give you as much towards trade in as you think. Or just keep it as a back up body.

What is the current market price for a used M(262)? What do you a dealer would give you for your M(262)?

I investigated this yesterday, when I took my M9 into L.A. Leica for sensor replacement.  The feeling was that, yes, the trade program will be honored - but only after the new, full price M10 customer orders had been fulfilled.  And there are a lot of orders coming in. Nine months was the most optimistic time frame, and they thought it might actually be more.

My M9 will likely be back in 12 weeks, maybe less.  I placed an order for an M10, and am expecting to come up on the list in a few months. I'll buy it, then evaluate it against my newly sensored M9.  I'll probably keep both - as my M9 is nicely brassed and much loved.  But, if I were to sell it, I suspect it will be many months earlier than if I'd traded it for the 10 through Leica.

However, if my sensor corrosion had been within my personally acceptable limits, I probably would have walked out of the store, shot my M9 for another year, and decided to trade/not trade then.

It's a bummer but unsurprising that Leica don't have an upgrade/trade in program.

years ago I had a Phase One medium format digital back- Phase One had an amazing upgrade program they gave you a very good deal if you made the leap to then next and best.

with leica your best bet is to sell your old camera yourself- I doubt any dealer will offer a very appealing deal on a traded in m240 or m9. Methinks the market is soon going to see a glut of used m240's- and the value of my own camera just went down by 15 to 30 %....
