Digilux 3 with broken lens 14-50

Poses a long time a Digilux 3 c/w 14-50 lens. Great joy. No problems.

However since yesterday, while shooting, suddenly my lens nearly seized up.

Just can focus from 14 mm - 22/23 mm as at the latter point I cannot further zoom up to 50 mm.

Don't know if it is a bearing???

My question, has anybody same problem?

It's a loose screw.

 

Mine did this after seven years. For a while the problem will relieve itself by simply turning the lens upside down then turning the zoom ring, as the screw falls back into place and releases.  If you will do some searching on this Digilux site by looking for something like "Leica 14-50 lens repair" you'll find lots of people with the same problem and the fix for it. Also since I don't want to really grind down on the screw tightening, and  I don't want to use Loctite on the screws, the problem reoccurs from time to time.

You can fix it in ten minutes. You'll need a small jewelers screw driver.  

Take off the rubber zoom band by pulling forward.

There are two metal bands underneath. Carefully remove by prying up with the screwdriver or something like a thin piece of plastic so as not to mar. They are loosely glued in. Keep track of which way they face and don't bend them.

Remove the screws now visible. 

Now you can pull the front ring back to expose three more screws. One or more of these is loose! Tighten them. One of them may be partially covered by the ring, but it can still be tightened without forcing the ring further.  Now reassemble.  

Use tape on your work surface to keep track of the screws and the guide rings (I can't remember if they are different lengths) The bands will go in with the same sticky stuff that's already there and the rubber zoom ring will compress them.
