I like that first shot. I’ve got a non-red scale 1935 Elmar 50/3.5 and have not been so happy with results on b&w. I haven’t tried colour and feel encouraged to do so by your post although I don’t know enough about the red scale version to know if my lens is the same optically. Which film and scan method did you use !

If you're not happy with your 1935 lens' results in b&w , it might need to be serviced. Red scale Elmars came in 1951.

Thank you. I think it really depends on the quality of the glass to be honest..these are old lenses. I have been using mine on the Monochrom CCD and with film, and to be honest...this lens has no right to be as good as it is! I was very impressed by its quality that I decided to keep it in my collection. By the way, here in Japan where I live prices for this lens have doubled in the last 2 years, and it now goes for over 1000 USD for a clean copy. I found mine in Hong Kong (MK&K camera) which still has mint copies going for about half of that.

In terms of versions, from what I read, the red scale Elmar has better coatings, while keeping the same optical design. Mine is very resistant to flare by the way, way more resistant than pre-asph  Summicrons / Summiluxes. Hope this helps and thanks for the nice comment again :)
