Popular Post farnz Posted August 30, 2012 Popular Post Share #1 Posted August 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) There has been a long and excellent thread running since January 2010 called "M8 and Old Glass", which contains many beautiful pictures using older lenses on M8's. I've wanted to contribute to the thread for some time since I've been experimenting with older glass but most of my shots now are with my M9-P or M2 and are out of place in that thread, so I decided to start a new thread that's not tied to a particular camera so that we can all benefit from seeing what older lenses can do. Please add your pictures shot through older lenses to this thread. There's no restriction on the type of lens except that it should not be the current model, no restriction on the camera used (forum rules apple of course so either the lens or the camera or both must be made by Leica), no restriction on content, and it's okay if they've been posted on the forum previously. Please name the camera and lens and post away! One to get us started. M9-P with 1946 Carl Zeiss Jena 85/2 Sonnar in Contax RF mount Welcome, dear visitor! Popular Post philipus Posted August 31, 2012 Popular Post Share #3 Posted August 31, 2012 Great initiative, Pete. I've followed that M8 and old glass thread but since I don't have an M8 I haven't been able to post. This image was shot on Ektar 100 with a Nikkor-P.C. 8.5cm/f2 and my M6TTL BP (Coolscan V). I find that this lens has a very pleasant focal length. It is somewhat difficult to focus wide open though with a rather short DOF. Welcome, dear visitor! Popular Post farnz Posted August 31, 2012 Author Popular Post Share #5 Posted August 31, 2012 Those are lovely shots, Chaps, and thanks for the support. Dirk, I've seen those superb shots before and they caused to me to lust after a 73/1.9 but I overcame the lust over time. But now it's started again!:D. Pete. Popular Post Keith (M) Posted September 1, 2012 Popular Post Share #10 Posted September 1, 2012 Two examples from the last roll of Acros100 that I put through my (underused) IIIg and Elmar 5cm f3.5, both circa 1956/57. Really should take it out and about more often, after all it really is 'pocket-able'. Welcome, dear visitor! farnz Posted September 2, 2012 Author Share #14 Posted September 2, 2012 Thanks, Jeff! For those who aren't aware, Jeff had already started a similar thread here that contains some simply superb picture using some very unusual and ancient lenses. I hope to arrange for a kind Mod to consider combining the threads together in the M Lenses forum for simplicity and a potentially larger number of viewers and contributors. brianv Posted September 3, 2012 Share #16 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) A real home-made hack job, A Schneider 5cm F2.8 Karat-Xenar made into Leica mount using a Canon 50/2.8 focus mount. serial number shows it was made in the early 1940s. Fully hard-coated. Wide-Open Schneider Xenar 5cm F2.8, on the M9 by anachronist1, on Flickr Schneider Xenar 5cm F2.8, on the M9 by anachronist1, on Flickr I thought the Xenar was a Tessar formula lens, until taking it apart. 5 elements in 4 groups, explains why it is better than my Zeiss Tessar F2.8. Schneider Xenar 5cm F2.8, on the M9 by anachronist1, on Flickr The geared chrome trim ring is from a Kodak TLR lens, and makes for an easy grip for focus. 29.5mm Series V filter adapter, same as for a Kodak Retina. RF coupling holds across the full focus range, must be made to the Leica 51.6mm standard. This lens was bought loose at a camera show for $30, but would originally come on a Karat fixed lens RF.
