50/3.5 Elmar on IIIf with Neopan Acros 100.

Pete, Sorry to come back to one of your photographs so late in the day, but this is a great shot and I was wondering whether you use an external viewfinder on your IIIf? I have the 3.5 Elmar and a IIIf, and would like to better at using it, but find myself very unsure of the results.

Hi, Beresford,

The IIIf has given way to a IIIg so that perhaps indicates what I thought about the shortcomings of my IIIf's viewfinder but, no, I never used an external viewfinder when using a 50 mm lens.  If you're having difficulty seeing the IIIf's superimposed focussing image then I recommend acquiring an OKARO although that won't help with the viewfinder.  If your viewfinder is very dim then the half-silvered mirror in the beamsplitter might need re-silvering, which is quite common.

Pete.

Pete, I think you have helped me answer my own question: Stop winging and take more photographs. Those little Leicas are so pocketable, especially with a collapsable lens that I just need to improve my skill in handling them. I have seen a number of pictures you have taken (and that Adam has on the Film Forum), and quite frankly they are as good as any all-singing electric camera.

Something for my very long list of New year resolutions!
