Pete, Assuming you did not use a tripod, you have a very steady hold. Also: for that photo your DOF is perfect. Regards, Ron

Hi, Ron,

No tripod was harmed, or used, in the making of this picture so thank you for your comment.  I blame the lens for the depth of field.😅

The colour balance was a little tricky thanks to the presence of daylight, tungsten, fluorescent (above the cool box), and fairy lights but it worked out okay in the end and showed me how well this lens handles spectral highlights and direct light.  The build quality and handling are also superb.

Pete.

Yes, swirly indeed. The Summarit's bokeh is not to everyone's taste and most noticeable with small background elements such as gravel (as above) and leaves. But I find it can be very attractive e.g. in the dead ferns in the first picture, which are rendered quite differently from my other lenses. The lens is also sharper than I expected wide open in central region.

I agree, I have found it most pleasing with nature subjects surprisingly.  My copy was quite hazy when I received it, but I had it cleaned and really enjoy shooting with it now.  Surprisingly great images.  I especially like it on my MM.

In my youth when the 1.5 Summarit was in its heyday I think I wanted one more than any other camera accessory/lens; but could never meet the tariff.  Part of the rationale for lusting after  it was that 100 ASA Kodak Super XX was the fastest film available which really limited available light  photography.  Then, an additional F stop was a very, very, big deal.  Now I own two decent "rits" and haven't really used them other than testing them.  Yes, the central area is pretty sharp wide open and the lens is overall credible at some point btwn 2.0 and 2.8.   Even now when I look at them they generate a sort of "ultimate lens" feeling of admiration from me.  Its hard to completely divest oneself of the emotions of  youth.  The "rit" on an era film Leica was the ultimate miniature camera/lens combination. Regards, Ron
