farnz Posted December 5, 2017 Author Share #3584 Posted December 5, 2017 That’s a great photo but the snobbery and elitism of those garden parties kind of sickens me. Actually I was there with Dan and it's not like that at all even though you can be forgiven for thinking it might be. It's the annual Chap Olympiad, which is run as a very tongue in cheek organisation that doesn't take itself at all seriously but looks to relive those times when hats, 'taches, waistcoats, bustles, brollies, and brogues were favoured along with good manners and respect for your fellow humans. The Olympiad consists of a number of contrived and amusing events such as Brolly Jousting, Moustache Tug o' War, Butler Surfing, Not Playing Tennis etc and any contestant who shows the slightest inclination to win is summarily and good-naturedly disqualified. It always very amusing and the people who organise and attend are welcoming, polite, courteous, and not at all stuck up or snobbish - quite the opposite actually. I've been going along for about seven years and it's the enjoyment, humour, politeness, and mutual respect that create a very appealing atmosphere that keeps me coming back. Pete.
Simon Posted December 5, 2017 Share #3585 Posted December 5, 2017 Thanks for the explanation Pete. In that case it sounds like a blast! Sorry, I assumed it was one of the official ones the Queen attends, but on second thought the scene does look a bit too casual and relaxed for those garden parties. It’s an amazing photo!
Exodies Posted December 5, 2017 Share #3586 Posted December 5, 2017 I don’t remember seeing farnz costume in any of these garden party pictures. Do you go in plain clothes?

farnz Posted December 5, 2017 Author Share #3589 Posted December 5, 2017 (edited) I saw the vest before I got to the picture. Not a vest but a rather splendid Tattersall waistcoat, Dear Chap. A vest is a sleeveless undergarment worn on the upper body beneath a shirt to keep out a chill in cooler weather. Pete.
