Help please: Question about USB charging

I would appreciate if someone could perhaps enlighten me here.

I am away on vacation, and I forgot my 2nd battery and charger.

Does anyone know if I can use my Apple iPhone USB charging plug (with a micro USB cable) to charge my T?

The reason that I ask is that I know Leica has a particular specification for a charger (amperage or voltage is it?) that will work, and I don't want to use the wrong one and fry my wonderful Leica T.

I just have to remark how wonderful it is to have my T and 23mm Summicron-T along. Even in the darkest light, (where I have been using zone focusing because AF couldn't see), I have a discrete and fast handling camera at hand. The results have been outstanding capturing action in such challenging settings.

The camera is also discrete and disarming and easily fits in my coat pocket.

I don't want to have to resort to only using my iPhone for photos, so I appreciate whatever insight any of you could bring forth. The nearest Leica store is a few countries away I think.

Many thanks for sharing and for the commeradery that we share here.

Best regards- DGP

Not sure if it matters. As the camera will draw as much current as required on the camera and as much as the charger will supply. There should be a current limiter on the T. Haven't tried it but all my other USB works that way.

I wish Leica would make all their cameras and chargers charge off of USB PD over a USB-C connector. Surely profile 2 12v @ 1.5A is plenty to charge a camera's battery. Then we can forget about all these AC plug types and wall warts and you can use the same charger as you do for your cell phone and (new) laptop.

I had the same problem when I traveled to Wales last year. I used a UK power outlet to USB converter and a USB to camera cable to charge my T with battery in it. It fried my T mother board.

I will never charge any battery through the camera again.

No problems charging the TL2 via USB in multiple countries here. I bought a travel USB plug with built-in prongs for just about every country in the world. It outputs 2.4A USB charging current. It charges the TL2 in a couple of hours from flat and has so far worked perfectly in USA, Singapore and Australia.

Charging via USB is also an excellent option when away from power points - for this I carry a portable battery pack that can recharge the camera 2-3 times.

Charge via USB is the way of the future and before long all devices will work this way.
