Dave, good news. There is a cure. However, before you can access it you will need to procure at least another two Leica film bodies. Obviously these will be an M2 and an M3 since they share design and functionality attributes with the MP.
Good luck. Keep us updated on your progress.

There is a 12-step program called Leitz-Annon and regular meeting attendance may work.  "Hi, I'm Dave and I'm a Leicaholic."   Most attendees are in bankruptcy or forced to attend as a last demand during marriage counseling.  Recidivism rate is extremely high.

The most successful group of addicts that deal with their addiction are married and have their paychecks and all other cash payments directly deposited into a spouse's bank account.  They also cancel all credit cards and then have the spouse create a credit monitoring account for the addict.  (Of course the addict does not have the password to the account and the password recovery processes sends the spouse the email to reset the password.) The spouse then turns on the Block All Credit Application feature and receives text notifications when there is any activity.

While giving up control of legally obtained cash and access to credit is helpful, there is a blackmarket on the Dark Web where Leica equipment is exchanged for untraceable personal property like family heirlooms and stolen property.

Many professionals agree it is better to treat the symptoms than the disease.  Treatments generally target cash flow and addicts are encouraged to get a second job.  Owning one MP or owning more than two lenses with the same focal length generally indicates severe addiction and a third job may be needed.  Cutting expenses are an option, but addicts are warned that reducing expenses can actually increase the severity of symptoms.  Reducing food cost too much can result in criminal child endangerment charges.

Sorry this message is not encouraging but know that you are not alone.  Many of us fight the same demon, each in our own way. To paraphrase a friend, one Leica is too many, and a thousand Leicas is never enough.

All in jest.  Great looking setup.  Do you use the DR on the MP?

PS - I hope I'm not belittling any 12-step program or anyone that uses one.  I have friends and family that use these programs and in several cases the programs saved their lives.

HI Ray,

This is actually my third MP (not concurrently) as I traded the first two for X-Pans (MP-XPan-MP-XPan then Xpan to SWC). This time I'm keeping the MP,  my X-Pan days are over as I have an SWC instead.  I've sold my M9 and M7 but am keeping the Leica S (006) as the digital rot (depreciation, not sensor rot as that was replaced by Leica) makes it not worth selling, plus the lenses are great.

Yes, I've used the Goggle on the MP and they seem to work fine. Just a couple of test shots, noting to publish yet but I'll get something with the close focus.

Hello Dave,

I don't see any problems there.

By the way, what you called a '135mm Elmar" is actually an early version of a "135mm f4 Tele-Elmar" with a detachable lens head. Very good at further & closer distances & a nice macro lens when it is used with a mechanical Visoflex & mounts/tubes or/& bellows. There were a number of mechanical/cosmetic variants of this lens with a removable lens head before the introduction of the fixed lens head version. All of the versions, both removable lens head & fixed lens head, are said to have the same optics.

Best Regards,

Michael

Hi Michael,

You are indeed correct about the Tele-Elmar.  For a long time I thought this was an inferior lens as images were never sharp. Then I got a Fotodiox adapter to use it on my Hasselblad 907x and discovered it's razor sharp, the problem has always been my inability to focus on the M bodies.  I'm seriously considering getting one of the 1.4x magnifiers for the MP to improve the focus on the longer lenses.

Best regards,

Dave

MP - the eternal classic. One of the most important Leica models since mid-fifties, the predecessor to M2 and a magnificent reincarnation into the modern times - both analog and digital.
Pictured here with the 8-element 35mm from 1969.

Perhaps I have misunderstood your post but that is an M2 not an MP.

You are absolutely correct, I have posted the wrong image (that quick glimpse of Leicavit confused me lol) - but everything else is spot on.

I have a button rewind M2 which has never been serviced since new and is still going strong.

Now i also have a MP Black Paint. I think my both silver and black MP's are the only cameras i will/can use for the rest of my life. I will never need upgrade every 2-3 years, no software update, no pixel counting etc.

I'm not a technik freek, i love pure analog photography and i have to thank Leica Shop Vienna for the brandnew MP BP.

The serial number on this MP is right on the edge (both to the front of the camera and toward the shutter speed end), is this new? Compare this to the location of the serial number in my ALC MP in post #4509 where the serial number is more "centered" in that general area of the camera.
