malligator Posted February 21, 2023 Share #4841 Posted February 21, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I didn't see the need for a new topic, so I'll ask here. I've determined my MP meter is off -2/3 compared to my Sekonic 758 and my Q2. Any point in sending it back to the mothership for repair? Should I just compensate? Brand new batteries Cleaned contacts Cycled the ISO dial a few times Made sure the ISO dial is set correctly on 400 It's now set to 250 so the MP matches the Sekonic and Q2 Checked on an exterior wall (that is really, really close to mid-gray) on a bright cloudy day
Advertisement Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Hi malligator, Take a look here I love my MP. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
logan2z Posted February 21, 2023 Share #4842 Posted February 21, 2023 Take the battery out of the MP and use the Sekonic? Kidding. Is the camera new? If so, I'd probably send it back. If it's an older camera and the meter has become inaccurate over time, then I'd probably compensate until the camera needs a full CLA, then I'd have the meter repaired.

I've got my M-A to use with the Sekonic. It's new(ish) from last summer.

Not acceptable for a $5000 camera. Seriously, a light meter in an MP is not complicated… in fact analog cameras are not too complicated either especially compared to todays technology, yet we see SO many problems with the new M6 reissued and MP and M11… the M11 is so basic compared to canon’s R5 or the newer cameras from Fuji and Sony. I don’t even know why I still buy from this brand. Probably mainly because of the unique user experience it carries, which apparently now includes the stress and loss of time dealing with defective cameras and zero to poor customer service. kroko Posted February 21, 2023 Share #4845 Posted February 21, 2023 Did anybody replace the lever with the two piece plastic lever from for example the M6? I only ever seen people who replaced the two piece with that from the MP.
pedro15 Posted February 21, 2023 Share #4846 Posted February 21, 2023 This is my first posting so don't bash me too much. I had a Leica M3 15 years ago but it was stolen and I really didn't know how to take pictures with it anyway. So I went to Fuji digital and have that. But a year ago my uncle passed away and willed me a MP. I have to say that i like this camera as i didn't even look at it until a week ago when i remembered i have it. I haven't even sent away one roll to be developed yet as i am still working on it but i am impressed by how easy this camera is to use when i remember what my M3 was like to use because this camera has a light meter. Leica did a good job in making this camera as the light meter really makes it easy for me as a novice to take these images. I don't know what they will turn out like as they are just shots around the house but that light meter is something i wish i had on my M3 and i might have missed it more. But when it was stolen and i went to the fuji digital cameras i liked those since digital seems to do everything. But I will report back when i get this roll developed. who knows as they might be all junk but i have a feeling that they are going to be ok.

We had some sunshine today (Spring is on the way!) so I did some more testing with a gray card. It seems the meter is pretty well in agreement with my Sekonic and Q2 in the middle of the range (EV10) and strays a little toward the edges. At EV5 and below it's at its worst (-2/3), but still reasonably accurate. It's a little off the other way at EV15 (1/3 or so). I'll just take that into account and compensate when needed. It would be nice if you would write about how your roll of film turns out. Best Regards, Michael

I have yet to talk to a customer support individual. Not joking, 35 phone calls, three emails, talked to every person I could in New Jersey that picked up the phone. I am ok with slower repair times since its humans etc and the time it takes to get it right. 9k on a camera and zero expectation by Leica to pick up the phone when you call is outrageous. Frustrated to say the least.

Frustrated to say the least. Contact Leica HQ in Germany. Tell them your bad experience with NJ Leica and they may sort it out. I had to do the same thing last year. Luckily it worked for me and NJ had no choice but to answer my emails.

hdmesa Posted February 25, 2023 Share #4856 Posted February 25, 2023 After a bad experience with scratched film on a new M-A and Leica CLAed M4-P, I decided to try again. Fingers crossed. Rangefinder alignment is perfect, so that's always a good sign. After the M-A, it's going to be hard to remember to turn the camera off when putting it away in the bag 😁, but I already love having the built-in metering. I like the silver a lot more than I expected to. Welcome, dear visitor! Why do you think the scratched film was due to the M-A and not due to a devellopement failiure or a salt grain or sand - grain on the fillm?

Because I sacrificed a new roll of film through each of them and then pulled the film immediately out of the canisters – scratches. The scratches weren't on just one roll of film nor one film type nor one film manufacturer, but many: CineStill, Kodak, and Fuji.
