Too much bandwidth wasted on soft releases here! 😇

Another example of "Finding the answer to a question that no one ever asked". Leica first introduced a hot shoe in 1971 and now, 51 years later, people feel that a hot shoe cover is essential. It is a good thing that there so many gullible people about so that firms like Kanto can build up their profits. Obviously it is a very different matter with digital Ms as the hot shoe contains all these rather delicate EVF contacts. Oh well.

Not a necessity but it looks better IMO. I literally never use it, so why not cover it :)

My dearly beloved Black Chrome MP 'A La Carte' with 35mm 1.4 Pre-asph, I think they are a match made in heaven. I actually do prefer Sharkskin with this combo 😉

Recently added some accessories as well as a JNK Leathercase, but might be better just witout anything on it.

Hello!

Sorry if I perhaps repeat this question: may I please ask where someone can find this Leica grip (shown on the MP).

Looks amazing!

I found it on Ebay around the time I bought my MP new in 2006, Chinese seller iirc.    I also bought a new f1 Noctilux with the MP but I didn't like how the camera was unbalanced with the Noctilux fitted.  The Leica grip M is horrible which is why I looked for an alternative grip to improve the handling, which it did.  The Noctilux is long gone but I always liked the grip and kept it.

Good luck with your search.

I like the Leica M grip - I have three of them - but yours looks incredible!

I love my MP. Steel rim remake, Rock and Roll riviera strap, Komaru titanium soft release. Mine unfortunately (fortunately?) has the serial number too close to the edge, but I don't mind. Maybe someday it will be a collectible defect 🤣

Now that is a combo I was wanting to see! I’ve got the BP MP, but not the Steel Rim remake (yet, though I might still not got it because of the vignetting with filter and hood). Looks so good though! Also, if my serial number ran too close to the edge, I’d consider it a future collectible too! I heard that the ones that have the too close to the edge serial number MPs have a much better rangefinder, because they were trialing new coatings on the glass, and they went back to all brass and steel internal gears. They also don’t scratch the film! 😉

Thanks! I'm loving the look of the combo and it performs great. I'm really hoping @Overgaardsolves the hard vignetting problem with a custom hood that has front filter threads. I have zero hope that Leica will fix their design mistake.

The other day, I checked a brand new MP and noticed that the viewfinder line (the one showing 0.72 right below the viewfinder window) has been removed - similar to M-A.

I used to have a BP MP (2016 model) and had that line (shown on this image - picture from another forum member). Did Leica changed the MP viewfinder aesthetics like they have done with some recent changes on the ''sharkskin'' leatherette or we have special MP editions in the market right now?

My 2021 MP still has the 0.72 written on the bottom side with the line across on the viewfinder.

Might have been a custom order for a meterless MP (or an M-A in disguise) but probably someone in the Leica factory put the wrong VF in the camera.😂

My re-issued M6 is without 0.72 as well.
so would assume the new MPs is the same as the viewfinder is.

That would make sense because the alternative VF magnifications have long ceased to be an option with the MP and it makes sense to keep parts common across ranges. The M6 that the new edition is a close facsimile of (even down to the Leitz badge) pre-dated the magnification designation so it is appropriate that the new edition doesn't have "0.72" printed on the VF.

I think @Emtsoh is saying that the MP they saw was without the silver strip altogether – "noticed that the viewfinder line (the one showing 0.72 right below the viewfinder window) has been removed - similar to M-A". Maybe I misunderstood?

@Wattsy: correct. Just last week, I saw a brand new MP (silver chrome) and instead of the silver strip 0.72, had the same viewfinder like all M-A have.

Maybe Leica changed MPs viewfinder lately and decided to include same parts in all film models (M6, M-A, MP). Time will tell I guess.
