mafoofan Posted March 3, 2012 Share #2525 Posted March 3, 2012 Not to bad: Your intention for having a very personal MP has worked out! Is the surface finish of the rear panel black paint or black chrome? Black chrome, I believe--just like any other MP. I asked about a black paint back door. Apparently, they are not available. dk_samurai Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2526 Posted March 4, 2012 Just picked my new A la Carte MP from the dealer yesterday: And if I see it correctly, you even had Solms remove the focus tab on your 50mm Summilux ASPH? dk_samurai Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2527 Posted March 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, it is a .72x viewfinder with only three frame sets (35mm, 50mm, 90mm). Only one set shows at a time. The ISO dial is standard issue for MPs. I wanted a black chrome hot shoe, but they couldn't dig one up that would work. The people in Solms worked really hard to get this camera done. Much of it was done outside of the normal production line. That's odd about the hot shoe, what was the reason they gave you since they couldn't deliver the black hot shoe? I had it done to a black paint MP back in 2010. RITskellar Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2530 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Hmm, odd. Did they do it after you purchased the camera, or was it made like that? About 5 years ago, I had a few different a-la-carte MP's done with black shoes with the initial order, but they come in black chrome, not paint (like they were on earlier M's). I actually didn't like the look of them because they didn't match the black paint bodies and looked like a mistake. I think the silver ones are fine. The MP on the left is BC, and on the right is BP. dk_samurai Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2531 Posted March 4, 2012 Hmm, odd. Did they do it after you purchased the camera, or was it made like that? Afterwards. It was a regular stock MP, but had the following done: - Vulcanite covering - 35-50-90 frame lines - Black paint shutter release ring - Black chrome hot shoe So actually quite close to your set-up. Very nice to have the frame counter in black!

Hm, and Andy I can see that the white line on the hot shoe is missing on your two black chrome hot shoes. And by white line, I'm referring to the line that shows which shutter speed you're at. Also, the black paint camera at the top right is missing the two red dots around the film rewind knob?

And by white line, I'm referring to the line that shows which shutter speed you're at. Also, the black paint camera at the top right is missing the two red dots around the film rewind knob? The black chrome shoes don't have painted lines, the lines are there but simply etched. Yea, the two red dots on that particular camera were missing, but not because I requested it. I have ordered six different MP alacarte bodies over the years, and there has been inconsistencies. I think the missing red dots on the rewind knob was just an oversight by Leica. I have two of these MP's remaining which were the ones I settled on and used heavily over the past 3-4 years, and those are the two matching b/p models in the bottom picture. dk_samurai Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2535 Posted March 4, 2012 Thanks. Did you have Leica in New Jersey do it? The black chrome hot shoe looks fantastic on your camera. I'm wondering who I should contact. No, I sent it directly to Solms, bypassing any dealer. I think I had the modifications done around March/April 2010. I'm sure Leica can help you out, good luck! Inconsistencies isn't a trait often found with precision manufacturers, so it's a bit of a disappointment that they didn't get it all right with your á la carte MP's. Customers are paying that bit extra for the details, so it must be a bit embarrassing for Leica to miss such things. On a side note, the vulcanite cover came back torn when I received the camera back from Solms. Either they're too rushed getting stuff out the door, or the guy who does the final quality control was on vacation when your's and my camera was done. Oh, and the black chrome hot shoes look very light on your photos, is it due to the reflection perhaps? Best, David
wattsy Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2537 Posted March 4, 2012 Black chrome, I believe--just like any other MP. I asked about a black paint back door. Apparently, they are not available. Should have got an MP Classic - black painted rear door and (on mine at least) black hotshoe.
RITskellar Posted March 4, 2012 Share #2538 Posted March 4, 2012 Oh, and the black chrome hot shoes look very light on your photos, is it due to the reflection perhaps? No, that's how they are. The black chrome is lighter and a matte finish, so it's quite different from the black paint, which is why I don't like it. The b/c shoe looks like a mistake on a b/p body. So with my two remaining MP's I have since just stuck with the stock shoes on the b/p MP's (which have silver rails and a black painted inside portion). aesop Posted March 5, 2012 Share #2539 Posted March 5, 2012 ...I'm confused now - my black paint à la carte came with a black chrome hotshoe (with a white "shutter speed" line). Is this not the norm?
