amethyst Posted December 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had to give up on this great camera - the focusing has gone to pot, I am told due to a failing sensor. Can't be fixed, So, my dear wife says I can have a new camera for Christmas. And I wondered about an X? I take all sorts of photos, mostly, when travelling so I do not like to haul a big camera around. Brought up on film I got used to shutter priority (don't ask me why) and I am used to thinking that way around, if that makes sense. I like a good zoom facility and I like to shoot in the gloom..... I do not consider myself much good as a photographer, but I like well made kit. I should probably buy a standard compact something, but it wouldn't give me the same pleasure at all. pop Posted December 12, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 12, 2016 I, too, used to use the D2 quite a lot for vacations and so on. I think the X Vario is remarkably similar in handling and output, even if the lens is nowhere as fast, and I'm very pleased with it. I bought mine second hand. I bought a used one from a Leica dealer and have been very pleased with it - the lens is excellent (if slow compared with my wonderful Digilux 2), but of course you can use it at higher ISO settings to compensate. amethyst Posted December 12, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted December 12, 2016 Thanks to everyone for their thoughts - very helpful. I'm tending to a T system with the Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm. This would be light and portable although a lot more expensive than a secondhand X-Vario if I could find a really good one. Having bought only one new camera in over 50 years (the AE-1, the Digilux was secondhand), I could live with myself on the cost. At £500 for the Visoflex, this addon might have to wait... Also, I like the idea of interchangeable lenses again. I've not used them since my Canon AE-1 days when I produced my best photos and that includes those taken with my Digilux -2. I would second this, I believe the 109 would do all you ask for, fast lens, amazing low light performance, image stabilization, manual, shutter priority, aperture priority and auto all at your fingertips. I haven't actually seen a 109, but the reviews scare me witless! I cannot cope with deep menus and pages of options on a small screen. Stubby fingers and too many birthdays. There's not much chance I'll be able to track down a good secondhand T either, and the TL hasn't many friends on these boards! All in all, not a great evening, but thanks again for advices. The d-Lux 109 has nothing to do with the Digilux 2 or any X for that matter, is just like any other Lumix with the red dot and the output is simply OK like anything else.
