Popular Post colint544 Posted November 8, 2016 Popular Post Share #2 Posted November 8, 2016 A couple I shot on my M9 and Noctilux F1 version 1 (E58), wide open at F1. Don't have either the M9 or the Noctilux any more. I don't miss the M9, but I often wish I still had the Noctilux. Welcome, dear visitor! Rus Posted November 8, 2016 Share #6 Posted November 8, 2016 I thought this lens still counts as a Mandler design? Summilux 50 1.4 Type III (E46) Both taken with the M9 9

Guest )-( Posted November 30, 2016 Share #11 Posted November 30, 2016 I thought this lens still counts as a Mandler design? Summilux 50 1.4 Type III (E46) Both taken with the M9 Nice shots, love the colour in the second. I have this lens too, it's a real favourite - I even have the special version with scalloped focus ring - but I'd always understood it be signed off by Karbe (with hood by Rolf Crema!) , as per the Wiki - happy to be corrected of course. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/50mm_f/1.4_Summilux-M_III I can't remember the rules, are R lenses allowed? I love all the Mandler R lenses I've ever used, more than the M ones to be honest. I have no idea about the 135mm M v3 - the Wiki has v2 (1960s release) as Mandler with no detail for the (1970s) v3 but I'd assume that'd be Mandler too - Canada, 1970s, surely must be? http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/135mm_f/2.8_Elmarit-M_II (v2) This is 35mm Summilux-M v2, one from Canada to boot.

graphlex Posted November 30, 2016 Share #13 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) I think it was simply that the formula was revised after he retired. Still a fine and, I will say, a Mandlerian lens. Edited November 30, 2016 by graphlex

Yes I have seen the info on the wiki page too, which seems to contradict with the apparent received wisdom that the lux 50 pre-A E46 has the same optical design as the type II E43, a Mandler lens. Hence my question in my post whether or not the pre-A E46 counts as a Mandler lens. I seem to remember reading it somewhere that the pre-A E46, or Type III, was basically the result of Karbe taking over the Mandler design and keeping it...etc. Something to that effect. Anyway, I adore the Type III lens, no matter who designed it. At the moment I own a Type II 50 Lux, which does draw similarly to the Type III. Will post some shots from that lens here soon.
