A couple I shot on my M9 and Noctilux F1 version 1 (E58), wide open at F1. Don't have either the M9 or the Noctilux any more. I don't miss the M9, but I often wish I still had the Noctilux. With the Zeiss, I wonder if it may be more of a function of focus optimized for ƒ/2.8 (speculation re: 2/50 as this phenomenon is observed in the 1,5/50 and 2/35). Zeiss will adjust the focus of the Sonnar for 1,5 so the image does sharpen up somewhat, mitigating the perceived softness.

Not sure if optimization for f/1.5 changes spherical aberration. My ZM 50/1.5 is optimized at f/1.5 and shows a bit of "glow" in the sense of halos around highlights at full aperture, but less so than my Summilux 35/1.4 v2. Both work fine together in low light though.

I don't think it does either but the Nikon 50/1.2 is a good example. Loads of SA up to ƒ/2 (more than any modern Leica) but when you actually hit focus at ƒ/1.2, the image has a high level of resolution beneath the haze, that appears to diminish the impression of 'unsharpness' and 'glow'. Draws the eye into the detail. Adjusting the Zeiss for f/1,5 helps in this regard. Don't believe the Biogon 2/35 can be tweaked in this way for a RF.

.... and as the weather got foggy again i had to do some indoor tests....

In my estimation, it is precisely when the weather gets foggy that one should take out one's Mandler lens.

Most of us seem to be photographers as well as collectors.
Show me your favorite lenses, old and new alike.
I like the Noctilux range for the extreme apertures, but I prefer the Summilux range for the best speed:size/weight ratio.
      Here’s a Summilux gathering of 21, 24, 28, 35, 50 and 75mm. All in black.

      Hi!

I've been smitten by images I have seen online made by the 75mm Summilux and have recently found one in mint condition for a decent price. Before I decide to sneak another lens into my house... does anyone have any thoughts, reviews, comments or experience they can share with this lens? Love it? Hate it? Any quirks? Any examples of photos you have taken with it to push me over the edge?

      Thanks so much!
      Mike

Some time ago I started a blog (www.mbphotox.wordpress.com) about adapted 50mm lenses on my Canon DSLR. A Leica 50 was on my wishlist for half a year and when I finally went out to buy one, I came home with an Elmarit-R 135mm f/2.8 because the Cron had been picked up by another guy right before I arrived at the store.

A few months later, I found a great offer online and bought an Elmarit-R 28mm and finally also the Summicron-R 50mm I had been looking for.

Having three lenses, I figured "why not get back into shooting film?", and so I started looking for a suitable Leica R body.

The SL2 was not an option since all my lenses are R-only, and the R6 was simply too damn expensive. R3 to R5 it was..

I stumbled upon this expensive offer that had been online for weeks, by a guy who wanted to sell his pristine Summicron-R 90mm together with a near-mint Leica R5...

I ended up talking him down by 20% and bought the package

Loaded a roll of Superia 200 last night and am looking forward to the results.

Here are some pics (more can be found on the blog)

The baseplate shows slight signs of wear, the brass shines through at some areas, but other than that it's perfect.

My lenses, without the 90mm, I've still got to take pictures of that one. But it only arrived 2 days ago.
