honestly, most of the pictures could have been taken with an iphone

Many photos with a wide angle , high depth of field could have been taken with an iphone, the lens looks like  28-35mm. The brand boasted an exhibition even with 2*3 meter prints (even though the coulours and forms are there the pictures were rather thin.) I am glad the general toning of the iphone is OK and within standards and the apple screens render magnificently.

BUT  they would have a different IQ

The reason why I tend to agree at times with you is quite different:

the rendering of pictures on this forum of directly uploaded photos is limited to a small pixelcount and compression as such may a make picture indistinguishable from a bland phone photo. To make a pun, some photos are rather phoney. I struggle with that aspect, sometimes my uploaded pictures of 450k reduce to an awkward 60-70k. I ave put more attention to this and I ope my workflow is improving.

The best way to avoid iPhone-look, is to use as small depth of field as possible. This picture is taken with Noctilux f/1.0, and could not have been taken with an iPhone:  :)

I have an iPhone X and thought that I could get away with using it for a get together. I like the Live Photo feature, but the highlights were blown, and the wide angle doesn’t give flattering portraits and colours were unimpressive. An example of a cliche that turns out to be untrue.

75 Summilux-M, M9

A man and his cat or maybe is it the other way round?

I'm usually not into pet photography but the encounter

was rather uncommon, this cat was bigger than some children

and was walked in the street laying in an horizontal stroller.

Too bad it was impossible to lean back a few centimetres more…

I think what he is referring to are simply bad compositions, lighting and a kind of snapshot character that don’t really does the Mandler designs it’s justice. Just proves that good equipment doesn’t make a good photo nor photographer.

Sea view - its all about location.

M10 w Noctilux 1.0 and 3x ND filter. Stopped down the Noctilux gives fine sharpness and beautiful colours across the field.
