Svassh Posted October 24, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Looking at picking up a 90mm lens. I have seen some advertised that state they do not work on digital although they appear to have a rangefinder mount and are Leica brands. Can anyone enlighten me on what lenses to avoid? Thanks Scott
Advertisement Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Hi Svassh, Take a look here 90mm M Mount Lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
otto.f Posted October 24, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) It has just been discussed here and it has been several times in the past. Perhaps you didn't see/search it or if you did, you might put your question more specific. That a 90 doesn't work on digital is non-sense Edited October 24, 2016 by otto.f
gfspencer Posted October 24, 2016 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2016 I have a Leica M Elmarit 90mm 2.8. It works great on my M8. I use an eyepiece magnifier to help me focus but other than that it's fine.

lct Posted October 25, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 25, 2016 As far as Leica M lenses are concerned, all the following 90s work fine on my digital Leica (M8.2, M240), Fuji (X-E2) and Sony (A7s mod) cameras: 90/2 v2, 90/2 v3, 90/2 asph, 90/2.8 v1, 90/2.8 v2, 90/4 collaps., 90/4 macro. Focussing them at f/2 is not accurate enough on my M8.2 though.
anindyo Posted October 25, 2016 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2016 Old Elmar 90/4 rigid (non-collapsible) also works on my M8.2.

Nice lenses. cheers.. Edited October 25, 2016 by david strachan
earleygallery Posted October 25, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2016 Sure, here is one http://www.ebay.com/itm/122195579580?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT That lens will definitely work on a digital M I don't know why the seller thinks it won't! A very good portrait lens too!
lct Posted October 25, 2016 Share #10 Posted October 25, 2016 Sure, here is one http://www.ebay.com/itm/122195579580?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Reason why this 90/4 does not fit digital Ms is perhaps that it cannot focus accurately on them, especially more demanding M8s, for lack of calibration. You could not raise a claim on e**y if the lens does not work fine on a digital M anyway. I would stay away from this lens if i were in your shoes but it's just the lawyer in me perhaps... Svassh Posted October 25, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted October 25, 2016 I sent the seller a message to see what he says, will post his response when I receive it. Thanks All
Svassh Posted October 25, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted October 25, 2016 Got a response from the seller, nice guy. Maybe just an issue with this copy of the lens but I think I will pass on it. Someone tried it on their Leica digital and told me that it would not focus to infinity. On an M-P and a T. I have never seen this type problem with a Leica lens and have no Leica digital camera to test it on. So I thought it was safer to say it is not for digital. The lens looks great and comes to the infinity mark perfectly. Looking on the internet, I only found one other instance, with a Summicron I think, where there was an issue. That with a Leica T which I believe requires an adapter.

epand56 Posted October 30, 2016 Share #14 Posted October 30, 2016 I had problems to focus my Elmarit 90/2.8 on bot my digital Leicas, M8 and M240, but it was just a problem of calibration. After that it worked fine on both and I still use it. A superb lens.
