Does anyone use this lens with a filter? I'm thinking of a yellow or orange when shooting B&W on film (M7) ?

Yes, I typically use a light yellow filter (Heliopan E34) when using black and white film. I find it ideal for landscapes – adds a little punch without spoiling the generally low contrast nature of this lens.

I tried to buy a yellow filter when I was in the Leica factory in Wetzlar. They didn't have one. (I couldn't afford to buy anything else!)

I too would like to have a yellow filter and would be glad to hear of any one else who uses one.

I did with film but since going to digital I quit using one. I have a Leitz yellow, FiGiL I think, and a Heliopan medium yellow in a closet somewhere.

There are plenty of filters on e-bay in all  makes, sizes and colours.

i only use black and white film and tend to go straight to an orange filter rather than yellow.

Thank you both for your advice. I have ordered one from Macodirect and look forward to its arrival in the New Year. Although I have an M9, most of my photography is done with a number of film Ms.

(I used to use pyro developer when developing sheet film for the excellent long tonal range it gave. A great name!)

I have a silver M240 and my lenses 21,35,50,90 are all black so I was vaguely imagining how nice a silver one would be. The silver Summaron 28 was announced and I couldn’t resist.

Now I see the black Summaron and I’m thinking - would it be a crime to have two 28s? What is wrong with me?

Where have you seen the black Summaron ? I do not find it! Maybe better because I do not need another lens, I do not need....I do not....🙂
