IkarusJohn Posted February 20, 2018 Share #862 Posted February 20, 2018 I don't think it is a Lightroom difference because I use Adobe Camera Raw (via Bridge) and I think that uses the same processing "engine". Our different observations may just come done to the way we use the lens – I tend to photograph towards the light and I think (though I don't know why) this may exaggerate the vignetting effect. I wil give that a try when I'm next out.
Guest Nowhereman Posted February 22, 2018 Share #863 Posted February 22, 2018 These two tourists from Singapore started to get out the way as I raised my camera to frame the shot; but, then, when I said, "I'm taking a picture of your Star Wars shirts," they started to laugh. wattsy Posted February 24, 2018 Share #864 Posted February 24, 2018 (edited) (Keeping this thread going.) I've been continuing to use this lens digitally (in the process fully embracing the digitalness of digital rather than trying to ape my more usual film) and am finding it quite interesting. We have been on the cusp of spring locally but there's now a chill wind from the east and we will have to wait another week or more. ianman Posted February 24, 2018 Share #865 Posted February 24, 2018 The first and last images are displaying one of the issues often seen in digital images under these conditions. The thinner branches seem to be completely burned out. Here is a photo I took last year in which suffered from the issue (I have fixed it in this file). Welcome, dear visitor! I use Iridient to treat my raw files and happily, it is capable of recovering the information using what it calls "Extreme Highlight Recovery". As I stay away from anything starting with the word "Adobe", I don't know if LR can recover this info from the raws. I will upload crops in subsequent posts due to weight restrictions per post...
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The differences may be subtle, but I think it makes the photo look much nicer and, dare I say it, less digital. Photo taken with the M9 & Summaron. Very interesting. I think you have demonstrated the difference quite well. My current philosophy is to ride with the obvious imperfections of M digital (I'm even opening the in-camera JPEGs in ACR because I prefer the colour I get that way). If I want a film look I will use film. I bought this M 240 recently (at a good price) for a fairly specific application but I'm quite enjoying using it more widely (for now). One of the biggest differences for me (and one of a number of reasons why I will continue to use my film M bodies) is that the film will retain some of the colour of the sky in this situation. I'm not so bothered about the missing detail (like the small branches) as I am about the whitening of the sky. 28 Summaron-M and film (a similar-ish photograph on the same footpath a few months ago). 28 Summaron-M and digital (this morning) Edited February 24, 2018 by wattsy
wattsy Posted March 15, 2018 Share #870 Posted March 15, 2018 Just a bit of a thread bump but I like to see what others have been doing with this lens. I wish I'd known years ago how satisfying a lens with soft corners and a maximum aperture of F5.6 can be.
David_English Posted March 15, 2018 Share #871 Posted March 15, 2018 Received my new Summaron-28 in February. I used it with my MM1 on a trip to Vegas later in the month. Loving the results. 14
ianman Posted March 16, 2018 Share #872 Posted March 16, 2018 Not the greatest of photographs, I was out looking for possible locations for a fashion shoot. I don't think I will never cease to be amazed at the M9's CCD rendering. And this little Summaron is a great match. Welcome, dear visitor! Would certainly work for a fashion shoot, as well as a standalone. Amazing, jewel of a lens, the stainless steel Rolex of optics. Forced perspective and muted palette, would be curious to know if you ended up using it as your location. I am dialing up Kafka, even though I keep getting a busy signal.
