Ivar B Posted September 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) So Leicarumors report a couple of weeks ago was 100 % correct! Edited September 19, 2016 by Ivar B
jrp Posted September 19, 2016 Share #3 Posted September 19, 2016 Yes, although even the roadmap is incorrect with respect to the announcement. The Summilix will not be available until 2017.
Georges Posted September 19, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2016 Curious what the next 5 lenses are going to be.
ramarren Posted September 19, 2016 Share #5 Posted September 19, 2016 Nice, and I see the grip is now touted as released. All good stuff. G
MediaFotografie Posted September 19, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 19, 2016 I'm not so common with Leica's identifiers; what does "super" means in "Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35mm f/3.5-4.5 ASPH" ???

It‘s the same as in Super Mario.
digitalfx Posted September 19, 2016 Share #8 Posted September 19, 2016 US Dealers are saying "early 2017" for the 50mm Summilux...is this accurate? I thought it was coming this year.
Georges Posted September 19, 2016 Share #9 Posted September 19, 2016 A Leica year is 15 months.
digitalfx Posted September 19, 2016 Share #10 Posted September 19, 2016 A Leica year is 15 months. Yea, but the chart above shows the Summilux in 2016
thighslapper Posted September 19, 2016 Share #11 Posted September 19, 2016 In typical Leica fashion they will probably sneak 100 out before the end of the year + dealer copies just to whet appetites and establish whether there are any cock-ups they have missed in testing..... followed by a larger batch a few months later and then at regular intervals throughout the year. I bet a few of us will be using one for christmas ..... . It will be the usual pre-order lottery .....
jrp Posted September 19, 2016 Share #12 Posted September 19, 2016 So the Summicrons will be lighter, which is good news, but no sign of OIS on any of the forthcoming lenses?
Vieri Posted September 20, 2016 Share #13 Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) I'm not so common with Leica's identifiers; what does "super" means in "Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35mm f/3.5-4.5 ASPH" ??? In Leica naming: Elmar = f/3.8 or f/4; Super-Elmar = f/3.5 (in this case, f/3.5 is the widest opening since the lens is not a fixed aperture lens) Vario = zoom Hope this helps Best, Vieri Edited September 20, 2016 by Vieri
thighslapper Posted September 20, 2016 Share #14 Posted September 20, 2016 So the Summicrons will be lighter, which is good news, but no sign of OIS on any of the forthcoming lenses? Using Leica logic I would imagine they would consider OIS on an f2 or f1.4 lens unnecessary if image quality wide open is the same as stopped down .... which modern Leica lenses are designed to achieve ..... ..... and AF performance deteriorates with low light and presumably OIS would as well...... Leica have a philosophy of doing what is needed to achieve superior imagery but not adding things that are not really necessary and just to add to feature bloat . OIS in every lens ...... or the camera body would be nice ..... and 25 stops of DR ..... and 250,000 iso .... and 120mpx ....... but whether you actually need it or not is another matter.... (but of course when it becomes 'normal' it is then indispensable ...... )
Guest VVJ Posted September 21, 2016 Share #15 Posted September 21, 2016 A small correction. On the Leica website it seems to say "Available from beginning of 2017" for the 75mm which would be nice.
rscheffler Posted September 21, 2016 Share #16 Posted September 21, 2016 Looks good though it would be nice to see more sooner... By the time SL v.2 arrives circa 2019 it will be a more complete system.
helged Posted September 21, 2016 Share #17 Posted September 21, 2016 Curious what the next 5 lenses are going to be. Hopefully a tele, say a 300/f2.8 or 400/f4 with AF and OIS, plus extender(s).
thighslapper Posted September 21, 2016 Share #18 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) Yes ...... the absence of a long telephoto and extender with AF and OIS is rather a puzzle. Most people can live with existing M and R shorter focal length lenses used manually, but using the big R lenses does pose problems ....... I'd happily pass on the 50/75/90 ....... but would jump at anything 300+ with an extender. Whilst Leica may imagine long telephotos would be low volume sales ...... I think they have overestimated the attraction of AF primes ..... particularly with many of us having high quality M and R equivalents that are easy to use on the SL.... As is the absence of a single wide prime. Anything wider than 35mm and you're a zoom shooter, apparently. Yet we get a 75mm AND a 90mm in the short tele range. They must be identical designs and so easy to make the alternative. I would have thought a 21 or 24mm would be important to round out the main primes (24, 35, 50, 90). Strange...... Guest VVJ Posted September 22, 2016 Share #20 Posted September 22, 2016 As is the absence of a single wide prime. Anything wider than 35mm and you're a zoom shooter, apparently. In hindsight the redesign of these 3 M lenses (so that they would work better on the SL) was probably a hint that we weren't going to see a native 28mm or 35mm SL lens anytime soon...: http://www.reddotforum.com/content/2016/01/leica-announces-redesign-of-three-m-lenses-28mm-f2-28mm-f2-8-and-35mm-f2/
