epand56 Posted August 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone using DxO Optics Pro 11 on Lightroom? What do you think about this application? Is it better or worst than Silver Efex Pro 2? Thank you for any information about this. All the best, Enrico

Bart D Posted August 3, 2016 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2016 DxO Optic is full fledged raw converter, Enrico. I use it for all my conversions. I prefer it over C1 and LR as raw converter. I don't use it from LR but that is possible. Files can be "sent" from LR to DxO Optics or vice versa. So, It has a different purpose than Silver Efex altogether. Optics can make b&w conversions as well of course, especially with the embedded DxO FilmPack.
esquire53 Posted August 7, 2016 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2016 I'm pondering about the latest DXO myself. They had a special offer some time back for the version 7 or 8 or so, but I missed that. A friend is using it a lot with LR 6 and he's happy with the optics correction with his Canon. As for Leica, they offer a few modules for various lenses/cameras I currently use mainly C1 but the workflow is a pain ... Maybe this post should be in the "Digital Post Processing Forum" for more feedback?
terrycym Posted August 23, 2016 Share #4 Posted August 23, 2016 DxO Optics Pro is a RAW convertor DxO Film Pack is used to emulate various films including B&W There's also ViewPoint which does perspective correction FP & VP are either stand alone or can be used as plug ins to OP I use OP and it provides results that are superb and quick to produce. It's arguably the best RAW convertor out there DxO Labs is the same company and they measure cameras and lens I use all their products and I'm very pleased with all of them. VP is one of their hidden gems. FP emulates film better than Silver Efex but does that make it "better"? Who knows. You can download all their stuff and use all the features for 30 days for free. All three work as plugins in LR and only VP & FP work in PS

Bart D Posted September 24, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 24, 2016 For me, it's a mater of taste. I simply like the results better and the way to get there. Other than that, the noise reduction in DxO Optics is really excellent. I would also suggest installing a trail and take a look for yourself. Take a trail of DxO ViewPoint as well, for more sophisticated correction of distortions directly in Optics I believe the trail period is 30 days. Some of which will be needed to get acquainted with the user interface of course. After that, you can compare the results you get from the different softwares and the effort that is needed to get there. One thing though: DxO Optics cannot process dng files from the Monochroms, neither version.
