APO Telyt Module System - images

Recommended Posts

Too big, too expensive - only for professionals. And even then only for certain topics/projects.

I always dreamed of buying one, but in the end I am glad I never had enough money for such a mistake.

Ask in the R threads about details and check the wiki. Check old pricelists, then you see exactly which combinations were possible.

(It's quite simple: 2 heads with 3 focus modules makes 6 possible combinations altogether.)

Heads:     2.8/280   and   2.8/400

Focus Modules:    1.0x   1.4x   2.0x

Prices ranging from 7500 euro (15000 DM) for 2.8/280 lens  to 14700 euro (29400 DM) for 5.6/800 lens in the year 2002.

For comparison: A "normal" Apo 2.8/280 was about 10000 DM at the maximum. This was rather affordable and it was slightly smaller and with the Apo extenders you could also get to 400 and 560 mm with near perfect quality. The famous Apo 4/280 was about 8500 DM.

In ebay you can find some used pieces, but often/usually they are in bad shape, sometimes incomplete, and the asking prices make you say "what a nerve".

So nothing I will ever own, looking back I regard it as a misconception. I prefer Canon or Nikon gear for that range - their used prices are more realistic. Their choice of lenses is much wider and the functionality much better (several AF programs and IS/VR).

P.S: Sorry that I am so negative. You can remove it if you find it too negative, no problem.
