gpwhite Posted January 7, 2017 Share #1081 Posted January 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I see Light & Byte in Zürich have stock according to their website of X1D, I wonder how long that will be for! Yes, X1D still in stock there now. The price is a good $1,000 above market, however, so there is likely no rush
Advertisement Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Hi gpwhite, Take a look here Leica SL or Hasselblad X1D. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Posted January 7, 2017 Share #1082 Posted January 7, 2017 I was just surprised to see stock available, and wondered how many pre-orders are to be filled before they reach mine!

steppenw0lf Posted January 9, 2017 Share #1088 Posted January 9, 2017 Just more guesswork of a different ( more positive and soothing) kind. No facts added. Of course nobody (not only chinese ) invests in anything that he/she think will go wrong. Just the same many things go wrong. So I would suggest simply ignore all of this nonsense (positive or negative). I you like Ming Thein as a photographer, fine. If you like him as a financial consultant, great. But the two roles have nothing to do with each other, don't mix this up.
Photon42 Posted January 9, 2017 Share #1089 Posted January 9, 2017 Yes, X1D still in stock there now. The price is a good $1,000 above market, however, so there is likely no rush You can also try it out there. It left me somewhat unimpressed in terms of overall handling. This is probably the case also because I tend to intuitively compare the body with other mirrorless (non MF) offers.
Joshua Lowe Posted January 9, 2017 Share #1090 Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) There's nothing I disagree with in Ming's article but it's easy to speculate with words. Speculating with $12,000 - $15,000 of your money on the table is very different. Edited January 9, 2017 by Joshua Lowe
steppenw0lf Posted January 9, 2017 Share #1091 Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) What I find more irritating is that the false description (as if GPS is internal) is still to be found everywhere. Only very few sellers (and also Hasselblad themselves ?) are taking this seriously - this is simply cheating (and a big BS). If Neil D had not been informed by his dealer, we would probably still not know anything about it. This is really a bad attitude. (Actually only one single seller informed his customers correctly - is this laziness or ignorance or simply taking advantage of good-willing people ?) I have no suitable words for it - "not acceptable" maybe (though too weak for my disgust/angor). Edited January 9, 2017 by steppenw0lf

I think if you had made the effort to ask Hasselblad, you probably would have gotten the same response that I did. LD_50 Posted January 10, 2017 Share #1093 Posted January 10, 2017 Why would you have to ask Hasselblad for a specification for a camera whose specifications are published, preorders taken for 6 months, and delivery supposedly started mid-December?

Well, because it's a new product and, as with ALL new products, the release specifications can differ from the specifications at announcement time, as suggested by the section in the announcement specification which states clearly that: 'The information presented by this document is preliminary and subject to change.' LD_50 Posted January 10, 2017 Share #1095 Posted January 10, 2017 Well, because it's a new product and, as with ALL new products, the release specifications can differ from the specifications at announcement time, as suggested by the section in the announcement specification which states clearly that: 'The information presented by this document is preliminary and subject to change.' It's not about announcement specifications changing. It's a supposedly shipping camera. The premise in the previous post is you should have to email the manufacturer to determine the shipping specifications. This is ridiculous as they have a website, have a marketing department, they participate in forums, have dealers and demo cameras to test, and are already shipping final spec cameras. steppenw0lf Posted January 10, 2017 Share #1096 Posted January 10, 2017 (edited) Nobody has written to Hasselblad before Neil D gave the warning, as there was simply no reason to ask for it. Or did anybody have a hunch ? Everybody expected the specs to be realistic. It's only decent. And the problem is the specs are still wrong in most places - after several weeks. (Actually 4 weeks after the official beginning of shipping.) There was an extraordinarily big fine for false claims regarding the Diesel engines - so it looks as if not everybody is so tolerant regarding wrong specs. A follow-on question: Has the external GPS been delivered ? Or will it be added later ? Any current unboxing films that could clarify this ? It is probably a stand-alone device with its own power source - not exactly as convenient as in the SL. And can it coexist with the Nikon flashes ? (as it is siitting in the flash shoe AFAIK) Edited January 10, 2017 by steppenw0lf

(as it is siitting in the flash shoe AFAIK) (bolded) No, everyone seems to expect the announcement specification to be the final specification ... This is an unrealistic expectation. And I know someone's going to say, "... But all the web pages list blah blah blah ..." Like you've never EVER seen a website with out of date information on it... (bolded 2) Completely different situation. Automotive emissions are the subject of national-level regulation and law. Building a vehicle with a 'cheater' program to subvert the regulations by outputting emissions which effectively lie about your compliance to the law is fraud—international fraud—and subject to very severe penalties. This has nothing to do with a prerelease specification changing before a product is released. According to two people who have received their X1D, there's a form in the box that you fill out and send in to Hasselblad. They will then register you for the GPS device and ship you one as soon as it's available. I haven't heard whether either of them have received their GPS unit yet. I have no further information on the details of how it connects and mounts to the camera.
steppenw0lf Posted January 10, 2017 Share #1099 Posted January 10, 2017 (edited) All this discussion 4 weeks after delivery, that is ridiculous, don't you agree ? The time for a "prerelease" is long past. (at least 5 weeks for a conservative guess). But thanks for the (preliminary) details about the GPS device. Asking for a date or a specification for the GPS (could be an existing device from another supplier after all) is definitely asking too much, I agree. I actually firmly hope it is an existing device and not anything Hasselblad has to start developing right now. FYI, Hasselblad makes a GPS module for some of their other cameras, so hopefully they have it together for the X1D unit. The good thing is at least they have one, as it appears to be conspicuously absent from the known specs of the GFX.
