Leica T and Zeiss ZM 35 lenses

Currently I use the Zeiss ZM 50 f/2 Planar and the Zeiss 21 f/4.5 ZM Biogon on my Leica T.

Both are great performers on the Leica T.

The 50 Planer is fantastic OOC. The 21 Biogon needs PP to deal with the color shifts. I use the Lightroom plugin FlatField for this. After that, the results are stellar imo.

Does anyone use the combo Leica T/ Zeiss 35 f/2.8 ZM c-biogon or Zeiss 35 f/2 ZM Biogon?

I've read that the 35 f/2.8 mounted on a Sony A7r or NEX5 show some issues in the corners. Does this apply on the Leica T as well?

Do you notice any distortion in you Biogon images? If so may I ask how you deal with them? Thank you.

Help!  I just received my Leica M to T adaptor.  The manual states that if the lens protrudes backwards  more than 11 mm beyond the bayonet contact area - it will not work ..ie damage the camera!!  Can anyone tell which Zeiss ZM lenses will work without damage??  Also without distortion and color shifts?.  I am primarily interested in 25- 35 mm lenses.

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Well,  based on your responses, I ordered a Zeiss 25mm f 2.8 ZM to try on my Leica T.  I must say it is a gorgeous lens with classic Zeiss styling and workmanship .. just beautiful on the T.  Post service  did not deliver until after dark, so I could only throw a makeshift studio shot together just to see if the lens even worked at all.  Everything fit with precision and focus is buttery smooth along with very sweet sounding f click stops.  I hesitate to share  the very first test  shots, but I was reasonably pleased that the lens was colorful and seeming sharp.  Tomorrow I will hopefully get outside for a few daylight shots.

Cheers,

Rick

A rushed indoor shot with the 25 ZM on the T.  I was amazed that I could get the manual focus to enlarge with the second wheel of the T .. very helpful.  This photo is cropped.

A major crop of the above, probably around a 100% crop of the original. Focus was on the front cloth above  blue book.  Considering the Pixel Peepers on the net claimed that this is a soft lens when used close up, I was pleased with the results. Can't wait to get it in a daylight landscape scene!

I used the T with the 50mm F1.5 Zeiss lens.

I noticed quite a lot of purple fringing around some details with a bit of back light.

It prompted me to sell that lens off and replace it with a Leica 50mm.

I have Zeiss 18mm and 25mm and haven't noticed any problems with them on the T.

(In spite of a sore throat and cold)  I finally got outside today with the ZM 25mm f2.8 Zeiss mounted on the T.  It is definitely a lens I can enjoy. As to whether it is significantly better than the 2 zooms that I have that already cover the 35mm FOV .. I am not really sure.  It does have a wonderful depth of field, and exhibits wonderful color along with very sharp images.  It certainly looks 'cool' on the T - I will probably keep it.

Due to my fighting a cold, I could not venture very from home so I went to my usual test site for photos - I apologize if these images are similar to ones from the past.

I have used both the 50mm f/2.0 Planar and the 35mm f/2.8 Biogon on my T. I have used them for several years on my M9P. Both lenses produce the crisp so-called cut glass look that Zeiss lenses are famous for. No apparent focus shift or chromatic aberrations on either the M9P or the T.

Some people think that the Zeiss lenses are too contrasty and lead to shadow blocking, but that has never been my experience. Personally, I prefer the crisp look of these two lenses to the similarly sized Summicron and Summilux.

Hi Rick,

I am heavily consider purchasing a Zeiss 21 f/4.5 ZM Biogon, and would love to hear more about  your experience with its performance while mounted on the T. Did you find it worked well without a viewfineder, or did you need the visoflex or the Zeiss Z1 for 21 mm lenses for best use? Also did you find it to be relatively versatile for a 21mm lens?

Thanks!
