Could you please indicate me the best Gitzo plate model and size for the SL with the Mountaineer 3 serie?

it depends more on the head than on the tripod; modern Gitzo's are using the Arca Swiss standard, so there are a lot of good plates...

(Mountaineer 3 is a good choice for the SL)

My apologies if I do not reply with Gitzo specs. I use a Pro Photo Clam head Pro-34NS (for up to 33 lb) with a Photo Clam Universal Plate PC-69-up3, mounted on a Gitzo GT1540 I bought in 2007. I couldn't be happier. It is strong, the plate is 69x39mm in size, with a 1/4" screw, and has 15mm strap eyelets on either end. Bubble levels for both horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) position.

My info was wrong when I stated the Pro-34NS has a load capacity of 33 lb. It is actually 66 lb or 30 kg.
