stuny Posted June 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Near charters is the astonishingly beautiful Dreux Chapel. Below are images of some of the carvings in the chapel’s crypt – Carvings approaching the quality of the Michelangelo sculptures in the Medici Chapel in Firenza. The last shows Barbara transfixed by the work.
Advertisement Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Hi stuny, Take a look here Tales of the Crypt (5 images). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Metroman Posted June 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 6, 2007 Stuart - lovely tones and light. They are stunning aren't they. I shall show my wife this evening - she is from Chartres (family still there) and knows Dreux very well.
Photoskeptic Posted June 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 6, 2007 Terrific. You've captured the hush of the place very well. Makes me want to visit.
steve kessel Posted June 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 6, 2007 Very interesting series Stuart and well captured. We pass through Dreux every summer on our way south and never thought there was anything worth stopping for. Be interested to know who the carvings represent? Steve. Guest Metroman Posted June 6, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 6, 2007 If memory serves - and I stand to be corrected - mausoleum for King Louis-Philippe, family and descendants. Built early 19th century. It also has some stunning stain glass windows. Built on the site of the old Dreux castle. No doubt Suzie will correct me when she gets home
cocker Posted June 6, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 6, 2007 Stuart, Very effective evocation of the atmosphere of the place. I have driven through Dreux on several occasions on my way south. I shall stop off next time.

The camera was flat on its back on the floor under the domw, I had to lie full length on the floor and use a cable release. Took me a while to get up again, and got some funny looks!
