Near charters is the astonishingly beautiful Dreux Chapel. Below are images of some of the carvings in the chapel’s crypt – Carvings approaching the quality of the Michelangelo sculptures in the Medici Chapel in Firenza. The last shows Barbara transfixed by the work.

Stuart - lovely tones and light. They are stunning aren't they. I shall show my wife this evening - she is from Chartres (family still there) and knows Dreux very well.

If memory serves - and I stand to be corrected - mausoleum for King Louis-Philippe, family and descendants. Built early 19th century. It also has some stunning stain glass windows. Built on the site of the old Dreux castle. No doubt Suzie will correct me when she gets home :o

Stuart,

Very effective evocation of the atmosphere of the place. I have driven through Dreux on several occasions on my way south. I shall stop off next time.

Lovely pictures, we were there last August, below is one I took with the 21mm Elmarit Aspheric, M6ttl, Provia 100. The camera was flat on its back on the floor under the domw, I had to lie full length on the floor and use a cable release. Took me a while to get up again, and got some funny looks!

Gerry - thank you, and very nice. I think tomorrow I might post some of the lovely glass from this chapel.
