Ivar B Posted May 17, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had my SL out full day today for the first time. What happened is that I cannot open any files (neither JPG or DNG) shot during the 2nd half of today (all on the same memory card). I get the error message that the file format is incorrect, but the files are clearly labelled correctly. I tried the playback on the camera, and the same happens there. Nothing shows from a certain file number onwards. I formatted a new card now and did a couple of shots just out of the window, and they were ok. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be (and if the files can be rescued somehow)?
Advertisement Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here SL - unreadable files. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Joshua Lowe Posted May 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 17, 2016 Sounds like that card is bad. Time to bin it, unfortunately. Recovering files - possibly, but it may mean sending it to a company that specializes in data recovery, which can be very expensive.

May 17th is a national holiday in Norway (day of the Constitution) and I was out with my grandson all day. I have plenty of photos shot during the first half of the day. There will be other opportunities. I thought this may be the problem but I did not understand why did this not corrupt all files on the card. Ivar B Posted May 17, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted May 17, 2016 (edited) I could not help avoid doing a few testshots with the SL while junior was playing with his mates. 24-90 at 90mm - the lens appears to be supersharp even wide open in the near distance range. pgk Posted May 17, 2016 Share #6 Posted May 17, 2016 Depending on the card it might just be worth trying some file recovery software - some card manufacturers offer this themselves. I'd back everything up that you can read then try recovery software just in case its possible to extract anything. Then it will be time to bin the card I'm afraid. I've had memory cards and hard drives partially corrupt data. It starts off small. Maybe an occasional read or write error. But it gets progressively worse. It might be worth backing up the files to a drive to see if anything can be done with them, though.
Ivar B Posted May 17, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted May 17, 2016 I have started a data recovery program. Let us see if this works or not.
Peter Walker Posted May 17, 2016 Share #9 Posted May 17, 2016 Did you have another card in the second slot? Are the images OK on that card?

LocalHero1953 Posted May 17, 2016 Share #11 Posted May 17, 2016 I thought that was the whole point of having two card slots in the SL. Mine is set to duplicate recording,
