Ernstk Posted May 15, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use my M8 with a single hand hold quite often and I wanted to have a more secure hold of the camera. I like the Thumbs Up attachment (because it's made of brass and will age nicely)but struggle with paying £130/$190 for it. The cheap alternatives are made of aluminium and I really wanted a worn brass look. So, I decided to make one. I got some 2mm brass sheet from Amazon for £5 and got to work yesterday with a Dremel, files and emery cloth. Cutting the brass to a rough size Welcome, dear visitor! When using heavier lenses, the strength and stability of the shoe could suffer perhaps. Since I am too clumsy for such a nice DIY project, I bought the expensive Thumbs Up CSEP-4S, but with which I am very satisfied. Perhaps you've noticed it on my Leica at our meeting at the Leitz Park. Especially for heavier lenses, I would not like to rely on an only glued Thumps-up. http://www.matchtechnical.com/Pages/ThumbsUpCSMod4.aspx Welcome, dear visitor! Ernstk Posted June 9, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted June 9, 2016 Bernd I agree with you on the glue only approach and I've now made an improved version, below. The photo is before the final finishing. I saw your Thumbs Up in Wetzlar and I really liked it. Ernst Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted June 10, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2016 ... Excellent, your admirable skilled craftsmanship. Maybe you should think about a series production. Will the finishing touch wear the famous red dot?
Ernstk Posted June 10, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted June 10, 2016 Thanks! No red dot, just black paint and some brass showing. Ernst

cobbu2 Posted February 5, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 5, 2017 This is great! I have the tools to do this myself... would there be any chance you could post the approximate dimensions and/or plans? Thanks Cheers, Allan
Graham (G4FUJ) Posted February 26, 2017 Share #12 Posted February 26, 2017 When I bought my M8 it had one of these thumbs-up fitted. I found it got in my way, so removed it. Guess I should put it on that auction site, or use in trade with a dealer...
Ernstk Posted February 28, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted February 28, 2017 This is great! I have the tools to do this myself... would there be any chance you could post the approximate dimensions and/or plans? Thanks Cheers, Allan I don't have it with me at the moment. When I get hold of it (prob 2 weeks) I'll measure it and post the dimensions. I made a model from card and then transferred the card pattern to the brass.
