extension tube

thanks... have you done that?

yes, but mine is rather long - around 20mm i think, and brings the Min Focus distance right down (maybe a 1:2 magnification, so around half life size)

writeup here http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/240934-diy-extension-tube-m240m-p240-only/

only issues are you can't just sling the camera over your shoulder, as there is only friction holding the lens in place, and you need live view to focus.

Mine was just a proof of concept, so i got the cheapest Ebay caps i could find.

I not sure I understand the issue  50mm summilux to M240...with Live View?

they are all over the internet...try B&H for and actual store or ebay (see link)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/141827992755?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true

Have you considered a couple B+W  close up lenes ...they work great and they are cheap

also you dont lose any light

I wouldn't glue anything together...not that it wont work ....but there are plenty of other "manufactured" solutions

Perhaps this link will help ?

I use an OUFRO Leica part number 16469. Full details here:-  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/OUFRO

This gives an extension of 10mm. OUFROs can be stacked but as they are no longer manufactured by Leica they have become prohibitively expensive on the second hand market. I was fortunate to buy mine for £25 but that was many years ago. There are Chinese manufactred imitations of the OUFRO available on eBay though they are unlikely to be of as good quality as the original. A set of close-up lenses is a fairly inexpensive solution with only a small loss of image quality unless a large magnification is required.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet. Novoflex has an extension tube set called LEM/VIS:

https://www.novoflex.com/en/products/adapters/extension-tube-set-leica-m/

For which the current U.S. selling price is $380, up over $100 over the last 18 months or so because, you know, the U.S. dollar has been sinking against the Euro: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1045031-REG/novoflex_lem_vis_ii_adapter_for_visoflex_ii_iii.html

I didn't because the original post said "need the minimum/thinnest tube/ring"...

and Novflex only comes in sets also ....I also assumed price was an issue because AP was considering a DYI solution.

Nearly double the Euro price - I was not aware the Dollar was that weak...

The minimum extension with Novoflex is 10 mm, less than OUFRO. The price is 199 Euro from the Novoflex website.

One can't buy from the Novoflex web site if one lives in a country/region that has a Novoflex distributor.

That said, the Novoflex stuff is cheaper in Europe than it is in North America.

In the U.K., the LEM/VIS sells for GBP155 (US$223): http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk/body_adapters/novoflex_lem_vis_ii_visoflex_ii_iii_to_leica_m240_adapter_tube_set/24053_p.html

That's $157 less than the U.S. price.

Can't one? I bought from their website  a few times - and they are represented by Transcontinenta in our country. But then, I wouldn't mind to buy from the importer, the price is the same.

Maybe it is one of these USA things like the lack of guaranty for second owners.

In EU "parallel import" must be allowed according to EU-law so if you ask Novoflex for a quote it would be illegal for them not to quote you (even though some companies still this is not the case). What you can (at least to some extent) control within EU is "active sales", so that somebody actively promotes their parallel imported products on their web page. In reality this is of course very hard to do anything about.

For the US, I honestly don't know, but in many places of the world you (being a company) can actually "forbid" parallel import and force customer to buy from your only local distributor.

This is what Novoflex says on its web site about purchasing from distributors vs purchasing direct: http://www.novoflex.com/en/where-to-buy-/

Novoflex has every right to charge US$223, inclusive of tax, for this part in Europe, and $380, exclusive of tax, in the U.S. Potential customers, on the other hand, might take a dim view of this kind of pricing behaviour. The phrase "price gouging" comes to mind.
