I don't always shoot street, but when I do, I am not sure I prefer color or B&W.  :unsure:

 

Suggestions welcome.

This post might have inspired me to put together a series of photos of streets as subjects. I know that's not exactly mainstream "street photography," but I'm a sucker for puns.

 

On topic, for me the color contrast between reds and greens gives that image more initial bite and also keeps my eyes in the image for longer. That said, on second inspection, the black and white image is better at holding tension between the hard edges of the upper right and the gentler tones in the lower left. I think which way to go with this image could be readily swayed by which other images it is presented with.

Yes. It is a "street" picture. :)

 

I also felt that B&W has more "seriousness" to it (you said "tension"). Color one is too lively and doesn't fit with the hard work being done in dark hours. At least that's what I am thinking right now.
