This autumn our resident pair of black swans have produced six cygnets and have so far managed to keep all of them from being a meal for foxes.

The swan parents are very wary of me and keep a careful distance between us, honking and moving away as I walk along the river bank, but the wandering sheep don't seem bother them at all.

Very nice Dee.  I'll keep my fingers crossed against the foxes.  It always lifts my heart to see farmers' dams with a small island, for bird nesting.

Back to the pic...like the long Poplar reflection.

all the best..

Thanks Dave! I first encountered these six cygnets about three weeks ago and much further down the river in a wilderness area where this pair of swans always nest.

The cygnets have since paddled all the way up to an area where the river becomes much wider and they should theoretically be safer from foxes and feral cats.

Dear Stuart,

I am honored to be introduced. You, and The Wanderer, finally taught this old dog new tricks. SLOW LEARNER!! Please, anyone, allow me the stage to sing some praises. VL 114

We used to get federal funding for creating water sanctuaries. It was very effective in rural Iowa. Oh, and a hell of a spectacle for us because some were created with a ton of explosives. Ten years later the memory of the fireworks were replace by the beauty of wildlife.

I'd love to see a Black Swan. Foxes, I saw often at the farm. Good luck on that effort!

I see the cygnets clearly.

I was taught a lesson by a good friend and photographer, as I was flicking through some of his prints...he said " I really like to look at the photo"...meaning into it, as well.

Now I do.  I look for nuances, funny distractions, anything...always adds so much more.  And I mean sooo much more.

But back to you...that is what I like about many of your images...they are often "loaded" with some subtlety here some nuance there.  I look knowing it will be there.

all the best Dee..
