Demitris. Are you controlling the background with the aperture and using a light for the flower? I suppose you could be using a fast shutter to also make the background black? Beautiful.

Thank you Dan!

I am controlling the background using the shutter speed. I prefer to have the control of the aperture in order to get the desired depth of field. I use mostly manual mode. All the flower photos are taken on spot, late afternoon with the flashlight in full intensity. Most of the times I get an even black background, but some times I burn any unwanted bits if something is visible.

I love this one, but could you please explain your technique here, regarding focussing? Did you use focus stacking in this one? Or is there another reason for the irregular

sequence of sharpness? Looking at the sharpness of the leafs of the bottom half plant I see a fall of in sharpness going up (Leafs top half plant) and then ending in the tack sharp center stems of the top half plant again.

Hi Martin,

Thank you very much for your kind comment. I am afraid I can't help you a lot concerning the reason of the weird focus! I didn't think too much when I took that one, just another point and shoot one. I just cropped it and edited the colours a bit. It is taken with a +5 Marumi closeup lens. I can provide you the DNG if you like to see the original. Other than that, I am not sure why there is this irregularity on the focus of the flowers.

Here is the DNG: DNG

Hi Dimitri, I was just wondering. I know you use close up lenses and if I look at the picture I am under the impression the bottom half flower is in front of the top half one.

This is why my eyes and mind were wondering about the irregular course of focus. But....maybe the flowers are basically above each other and not in front of each other.

That would explain it. Don't think too much of it, I love the picture and was just wondering.
