Are there no hummingbirds in Europe? I love photographing these little birds with the Q.

One more. A Broad-Tailed Female. I could remove the ring-light reflection in the eye, but I decided to just leave it.

Visited the Spokane Washington Manito Park. The rose garden is amazing. Sorry, I don't know the specific name. Love having macro capability always with me.

Today I became fascinated by a spider on our front screen door. I discovered it is a Pholcus phalangioides, and commonly called daddy long-legs spidergranddaddy long-legs spider, I wanted to do a direct comparison of macro photography using the Q and using my Canon 5D3 and 100mm macro lens. I used a Canon MR 14 EX ring flash with both lenses. Once again I quickly realized the limitations for the Q for this kind of setting. Not having a wired or cable shutter release causes the camera to make subtle shifts causing image quality issues. Not big, but there at times. I could have used the Leica Q app, but I prefer to not do that for this kind of photography. I have used that extensively for photographing hummingbirds. See pervious images. Furthermore, Leica choses to revert back to the normal view after a magnified view when in manual focus mode. This is a huge limitation and would greatly enhance any photography where focus is critical and the subject is not moving. Macro is a perfect example of that. On the 5D3 I can zoom in and watch for subtle focus changes as the result of wind or critter movement and then take the photo at the optimum time. With the Q, this is more difficult. Lastly, I can focus closer with the Canon, but I don't count that against the Q. Having the capability always to go to macro on the Q is a huge plus and any lens has tradeoffs in the design. Certainly the 28mm is not the best for macro photography and the 100mm is better suited for this work.

Anyway, here are the best images I that I could achieve achieve.

First the Q.

Some of you may remember that I adapted a Canon MR 14 EX ring flash to the Q. I use it in manual mode and it works extremely well.
