Wonderful.  One of my favorite musicians.  How did you get so close?

@RayD28,

When I made this photograph, John was giving a benefit performance for the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center ( https://www.tmbcc.org/ ).  I am TMBCC's photographer, so I had unlimited access.  John is friends with Ven. Arjia Rinpoche, the abbot of the monastery located at TMBCC.  This was an outdoor performance with maybe 200 people present in a very relaxed, informal setting; no stage hands or tour manager - just John and his security guy.

I have met John on a handful of occasions and have photographed him with VIP visitors after another benefit concert for TMBCC, this one in a sold out 400 seat venue at Indiana University's Auer Hall.  He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March of 2008, but in recent years has more or less opted out of the music industry rat race to make music more on his terms and to concentrate on his art - he is a gifted painter, working in oil:  https://www.widewalls.ch/john-mellencamp-paintings-aca-galleries/

Each time our paths have crossed, John has been affable, pleasant and relaxed.  He may not look the part of a refined gent, but appearances are sometimes deceiving.  His demeanor is that of a gentleman burnished by the journey of life and given to introspection and thoughtfully chosen words rather than mindless jibber-jabber.  Nevertheless, he can be quite entertaining as a story teller during interviews or in relating his observations on life and experiences along the way between songs or sets during a performance.

Another one:  John Mellencamp & Ven. Arjia Rinpoche (9-24-16).  I call this one The Rocker and the Bodhisattva.

(M-P 240, 90mm f/2 APO, ISO 400, f/2.8, 1/750 sec.)

I am generally reluctant to crop, but if an image can be made stronger by cropping to a 1x1 or 1x2.7 pano format, I think it is worth doing so.  I like the bokeh that the 90/2.0 APO lens produces in this image.  I must admit to a whiff of softness in the faces; even so, IMO this image is still a keeper.

Sorry for the cat pic, but I was bored....

Bored enough to try the 50mm F1.1 7Artisans on the M240 (a lens I haven't really used since I got my hands on the 50 'lux ASPH last year) as I haven't really tried the 7a on the new (to me) 240 yet

Unlike the M9, the 240 seems a bit fussy to read the 6-bit coding on the 7a...

I took only the 7a with me today on my state mandated 30mins of out of the house exercise... I quite like the look, but it's a bit hit and miss on which images that look works on.. back when I used the 7a a lot on the M9 I tended to use it at 1.4, now of course I have the lux the 7a is all but redundant (as the lux is smaller, lighter, sharper, has a lens hood, doesn't distort like a wide angle and doesn't vignette like the into on an old James Bond movies)

Anyway, here's a cat snap taken wide open with the 7artisans 50mm

M (typ 262),  28mm Elmarit Aspph

This is in Ybor City in Tampa, FL, USA around Christmas 2019. An old building with the roof removed and turned into an outdoor bar.

Also Ybor City, Tampa, FL, USA  around Christmas 2019. I'm not sure of the significance of all of the chickens and roosters running around loose, but they're everywhere. The city feeds them. They seem to do fine on their own.
