michaelwj Posted October 4, 2016 Author Share #21 Posted October 4, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) For what it's worth, Kanto Camera in Japan do a beautiful solid brass tab which they can fit to non-tabbed lenses. https://www.instagram.com/p/BK7HgV3jKnE/?taken-by=kantocamera&hl=en Bet it isn't cheap though. oooooh, looks super cool though!

michaelwj Posted December 1, 2016 Author Share #22 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) Time for a follow up. I had the Lens serviced by the local Leica repair tech, and while he couldn't get the offical tab, he did a quick print and fitted it. It's perfectly functional (the rest of the lens came back fantastically), but got me thinking a bit more about printing up my ideal tab for it. Personally, I prefer the older style tab, like on my SA. It's a bit deeper and has a more secure fit to my finger. To get the extra depth, it'll have to thinner where the screw attaches it to the lens (where the plastic ones break), so I'll need to print it in some sort of metal. Ti would be nice but i think expensive (have to be hollow) so I'll probably go for Steel (super cool too) or Bronze (need to check the strength). Anyway, I knocked up a few designs in solidworks today and I'll get them quickly printed in plastic to see how they go before making the plunge for a metal one. Once I'm happy with it I'll share the file so we can all print our own. Fingers crossed! Edited December 1, 2016 by michaelwj

I know I shouldn't reply to such old threads. I just wanted to say, while you say you painted it badly, I think it looks SUPER cool the way it is in that picture Did anyone try Kantocamera since 2017? leicaalex Posted August 13, 2019 Share #27 Posted August 13, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a 35 pre asph Summilux with a missing tab and because of that got a discount. The seller included a somewhat cheap rubber tab which I didn‘t use. Sent it to Leica, total cost 350€ including CLA and a very nice re-do of the paint on the index scales. Looks brand new. So repairing a MISSING tab of an originally tabbed lens costs 350€ in Wetzlar? That's good to know. Now I wonder if they add tabs to lenses that didn't have one originally. The kicker for me (and one reason to make my own version) was the insured postage to and from Germany from Australia. It would have cost over A$1000 all up to replace a $25 part. The other reason is of course my version is better They will never retrofit one to a lens that didn’t have it, the internals need space where the tab screws in, and holes in the barrel. idusidusi Posted March 25, 2022 Share #31 Posted March 25, 2022 What about Taab? https://www.catlabs.info/product/taab-lens-focus-tab I thought these look like a good prospect that don't need screws.
