Thanks a lot, Gerry.  I really appreciate your feedback.

Since I last posted this, I was made aware that somehow through the original $5 contest into which I entered this photo that it was selected (along with 36 out of over 500 submitted) to be put on exhibit in a St Louis gallery for a couple of weeks later this summer.

Here are the details:

Exhibit Dates: August 5th-27th, 2016

Opening Reception: Friday August 5th, 2016

Location: Kranzberg Arts Center Incubator, 501 N Grand Blvd, St. Louis, MO

Photos and info on the gallery can been seen here:

Clearly not the MOMA  , but nevertheless somewhat surprising as before I spent that $5 to throw the photo into the ring I never thought it would see the light of day....

Just picked up on this Adam, well done ;-)

Sincerely

Charles

I'm astounded. An incredible series.

Do you use a meter, or all by calibrated eyeball?

Cheers

J

Thank you, J!

I indeed use an incident meter to confirm the EV of the falling direct light.  But, as you say, most of the series is all about having fun with "calibrated eyeballing" of the EV needed to achieve a certain look.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  It is nothing scientific and nothing that anyone can't do with a basic education on EVs, a little practice and faith in their skills :)

I like this series. The best images (for me) are the ones with a feeling of mystery and an implied story, like in images number 7 and 8 on the first page of this thread. In number 7, there is very much an implied relationship between the figures (who also fill the frame very nicely).

When I look at number 8, my view starts from the manhole cover at the bottom, then leading lines are pulling my eyes right upwards and through the image, and then my eye catches the silhouette in the smoke on the left. Very nicely structured images.

The whole concept is, as already stated by others, phenomenal! I would like to emphasize the rendering obtained by film, which is really something hard to create from digital files! I like the film look, very much… and sometimes I "fake" it with PP in Color Efex Pro4, but it's not quite the same… Congratulation!

Very clever. I actually prefer this one the right way up (unless you took it with the camera upside down! ;)

Cheers

Thanks, J - Interesting perspective.  I didn't take the photo upside down  - I can barely take photos right side up!  :)

Just saw these pictures. What an amazing series! Very inspiring. Thanks, Adam!

Sincere thanks, Ecar.  A far cry from the beach... :) :)

Hi Matic - Since thanks.  I really appreciate your comment.  And I agree with you about the wonderful qualities of film.  That's why I sold all of my digital gear! :)
