Which prime as a first lens?

Recommended Posts

That's still a good value since they are $2,395 here. Amazing lens for sure. Very thin and pleasing bokeh. Still less expensive than all but v2 used 35mm Summilux-M lenses.

Reviving an earlier topic regarding prime lens.  In my bag I carry a 23mm, 35mm and the new 60mm TL lens.

I recommend the 23mm f2. It is obviously smaller and lighter than the big f1.4, and the 23mm (approx. 35mm FOV )  is more versatile. When I bought my T, the only lens I bought was the 23mm and it is brilliant. Since then, because I am a lazy shooter, I added the 23-55 and the 55-135 zoom lenses.

Wow. $1700 is a great price for the 35mm Summilux-TL. Where did you find that? That's quite a bargain for what you're getting.

It's a fantastic lens. Extremely sharp across the frame and at all apertures, great colors and microcontrast, beautiful bokeh when needed.

Is it possible to show us some demonstration of that? Because the reviews I read and the images I have seen do not show a lens sharp edge to edge..... I wanted to buy this lens but I am not sure it is as good as people say. Yes, colour and bokeh are nice, but about sharpness and microcontrast, I am not sure...

Edit... Sorry I just realised this post is old... Never mind, if anyone else has any info I would be very interested to see it, thanks.

Wow complete set of primes.

Nice bag and note book

May I ask which ones are they?

The bag is the Ona "Prince Street".  I have all of the zooms too so I guess you can say I'm quite committed to the TL system.

I have posted several photos from the 35 1.4 TL on the T photos site.

It is a very nice system indeed. 35 and 60 are very sharp, not convinced yet about the 23mm overall.

How do you find the 60 mm AF speed on your T?

Mine  is terribly slow in mid to low light, motor seems moving back and forth,

It will focus accurately only after restart and this only for a few frames.....

Firmware 1.6.1 was just released and it addresses the close focus mode for the TL 60mm lens.  It does seem to focus noticeably faster than before but still hunts for a defined edge or surface.
