Deliberate1 Posted March 10, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just corresponded with a sponsor of this site in the hopes of obtaining a second battery. He advised me that Leica "does not have any more S batteries available." A quick search of the major retailers confirmed that most were out of stock. I did ultimately located one from Adorama which had at least one which I purchased. Rather surprises me that Leica would stop production of the power plant of a camera that it is still promoting and selling through its dealers. Advertisement Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Hi Deliberate1, Take a look here Get your 006/SE batteries while you can. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest chipcarterdc Posted March 10, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2016 If true, it's probably because the 007 batteries are backwards compatible with the 006. Thus, there would be no reason to maintain two separate lines of S batteries, since the 007 batteries will work in the 007 and the 006. Whereas the 006 batteries will work only in the 006, not in the 007.
jip Posted March 10, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2016 Yes the 007 battery works in your S2 and S006, also it has more power so it will last longer.
John McMaster Posted March 10, 2016 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2016 Is that needed, my batteries seem to last +1000 shots in my S2-P, and I do not shoot than many images in a day ;-) john
Deliberate1 Posted March 10, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted March 10, 2016 Thanks all. I was not aware that the 007 batteries are backwards compatible. Discontinuing the 006 battery certainly does make sense given that fact. I am tempted to cancel my order for the 006 battery and spend a few more bucks for the 007. But, truly, the 006 battery is so robust, I am more likely to lose an 007 before having to recharge it.
Deliberate1 Posted March 11, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted March 11, 2016 Never mind. Despite Adorama's assurance that the 006 battery was in stock, I received a back order notification. Looks like it will be an 007 battery in my future.
Paul J Posted March 11, 2016 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) That would have been a very un-Leica thing to do.

John McMaster Posted March 11, 2016 Share #10 Posted March 11, 2016 True, but I have 4 S2 batteries (I use the grip and have two sets) so will not be buying any more of the original ones ;-) john

Any takers? David
jip Posted March 12, 2016 Share #12 Posted March 12, 2016 Yes it lasts longer David. Also it's nice to know that if you buy 007 batteries for you S006 if you upgrade in the future to the 007 they will work... The 006 batteries don't work in the 007. So you're better of having 007 batteries anyway.

Also it's nice to know that if you buy 007 batteries for you S006 if you upgrade in the future to the 007 they will work... Me: Yes, dear, I know I have only had the 006 for a few months, but it will be very cheap to upgrade to the 007 now. In fact, it is just the perfect time. My Dear: And why is that, pray tell. Me: Well...I already own the battery for it....
Guest VVJ Posted March 19, 2017 Share #14 Posted March 19, 2017 My 2nd (out of 3) S2 batteries just died... As above mentioned the older batteries 14429 does not seem to be in stock anymore... I guess it will be the S007 battery for me as well... Am I the only one who is having bad luck with these batteries? At $250 a battery they are not exactly cheap...
