Anybody have an advise to convert a printer in to B&W  only using only B&W inks only. I have a Epson 800 used in normal inks ( colour set).

I  know Perma jet and some other inject ink producers have some Monochrome printing flow . But I believe I need a special print head cleaner before I adapt  in to the Monochrome printing.

Anybody have an idea or experience how to do it .

Thanks for any information or advise about how to do this .

Thanks again any answers .

Are you referring to the new Epson SureColor P800?  If so, it cannot accept third party inks, unlike many prior Epsons, like the P600, which may be the last Epson not incorporating sophisticated new technology to prohibit the switch.  The other earlier 800 Epson models, as far as I know, are not really pro quality.

You might visit Jon Cone's Piezography site, which is one of the more well known b/w only systems for Epson.  It lists printers that are supported, as well as provides tons of info on the concept and procedures.  The Piezo system can use different b/w ink sets (Cone also sells substitute color refillable ink cartridges).

There's a lot more to doing this right than mere plug and play....clearing the color inks is just a start...far too much to go into via a short summary here.  Cone runs week long workshops on the process.  Of course there are other approaches, but Cone knows his stuff....and Epson's stuff.

  • 2 weeks later...

Cone is working on a new "Pro" system. I was in contact with him last month and the new system is expected to be out in a few weeks time.

As for my 4900, it will allow a combined glossy and mate system.

I'm waiting for that to modify my 4900

They now have inks for the P600...but, as I said, they are unable to do so for the P800 (according to a very recent email from the company).

The 4900 has been supported for a long time....nothing new (except if they've come up with even better formulation).  The 4900 has been one of Epson's failures...one reason Cone can market their inks for it, since their ink system is less prone to clogs.

yes, the 4900 is not new.

New will be the PRO system

The only advantage to waiting a month or two is that we will release Piezography PRO then. This is a dual ink system that lets you blend the two sets together independently in the shadows, midtones and highlights. It also allows printing of the GO at the same time as the inks - rather than a second printing.

Best regards,

Jon
