If I go out to take photographs, I know if it’s going to be a B&W day or not. Much depends on the weather.

I used to feel the same way but having seen so many terrific b&w images on this forum taken in virtually every kind of light, my attitude has changed. I still enjoy and shoot colour, but almost invariably the images that evoke the strongest emotional response in me are b&w--indoors, outdoors, rain or shine. I think this has a lot to do with both the quality of the Leica Monochrom sensors and advancements in conversion software. There really is no longer a black & white day versus a colour day.

A B&W day is when I take out my M246M, a colour day is when I take out one (or more) of my colour bodies. It is very seldom I take them out together and if I do I ususally have vastly different focal length on the B&W vs. the colour body and even with that difference I still find it very hard to switch between B&W and colour seeing.

Gee, when standard Leica M cameras can capture images as lovely as some of these, what is the point of buying a specialized "Monochrom" camera?

Because with a monochrome (only) camera, I already look and frame differently. I can ‘breath’ B/W, just like in times of film.
then I got spoilt with colour. Oh that gorgeous colour. . .

When I try to apply what you wrote to me, the end result is I need. two expensive cameras, not one multi-purpose camera, and I need to walk around with both of them.   What I might do is change the settings on my M10 so the camera shows me the images, and the captured images, in B&W, and when I review the 'jpg' images make sure they are set to B&W.

Maybe in large prints it might be more obvious, but I can't tell any difference between a standard camera shooting in B&W, or a Monochrom when I review the posted photos here.

I used to only shoot B&W, like in growing up, and when I had a darkroom. I didn't miss color, but my relatives and friends did.

I think it's easier to shoot in color - in B&W there are so many more things I need to be aware of.

Funny though - I have no desire whatever to shoot in B&W with my Nikon DSLR, and a huge desire to do so with my M10 and M8.2 cameras.

I thought about my earlier response to you, and decided why not?  If it's bright and sunny when I go out, I'll plan on color.  If not, I'll mentally switch to B&W.  Maybe you can help me - I know the M10 can save separate "user modes".  Can I name one of those to B&W, and automatically have it show me things in live-view and on the Visoflex, as well as in playback, in B&W?  Maybe later tonight I'll try to set that up.  I understand my raw images will remain in color, but my image processor, PhotoLab, can automatically emulate many different brands of film.
