Leica T Protector Case Solution

The Leica T Snap Case Protector is a slim completely protective solution to a 1/2 case for the T and has a superior grip. It also looks very nice. UNFORTUNATELY it is very difficult to install, is a real bear to remove and requires that it be removed and replaced in order to access the SD card door and port and access the battery for replacement. But it is much cheaper than the other solutions like the Leica letter 1/2 case. I won't even mention the excellent and very expensive cases by Luigi, A&A and others. Now the Snap case is so unpopular, that it is available at heavy discounts from various sources.

I bought mine for around $40.

So, what to do? Attached are several images of my solution which gives total access to the battery and the SD card, while giving me a good looking protector case made for the Leica T, without a heavy investment. The only tools required is an Xacto knife and the Xacto  #15 Keyhole Saw blade. I used a drill on the case at important starting points and where I would have to make a change of direction. Additionally, a piece of white paper to which I applied removable photo print adhesive to affix it to the bottom of the camera and a soft lead pencil to make a relief rubbing of the relevant part of the camera bottom to use as a precise template. I was able to use the template with additional sick stuff to precisely locate it on the case bottom  for my modification.

The photos attached show the finished product. For the SD card door hinge, I used a strip of black self-adhesive Velcro and the same material as a Velcro latch. I suppose there is a more sophisticated latch that I could have designed, but this is simple and does the job. With patience and precise cutting, and finishing up with a common emory board nail file, finished my very useful case. You will note that the bottom view reveals a little bit of roughness in my cutting, but this is a first attempt and quite frankly my last attempt. i am satisfied with the result and in all but close inspection the roughness is undetectable except by closeup photos.
